UGH! Pregnant with a cold....

I'm about 6.5 weeks along.... from the moment I woke up today it's all been downhill with congestion, sore throat, aches. Anything I can take for this just to take the edge off? I'm supposed to volunteer for DS's Kindergarten Carnival tomorrow.

My neighbor says this is a good sign, that the bean is already "sucking the life out of me". How nice

Tylenol is supposed to be the one safe drug like that. Not sure about specific different TYPES of tylenol, though.

I've had almost ENDLESS colds with this pregnancy-- and the extra mucous makes me vomit soooo much more, blech. DD just kept getting sick, or the teens at school would come in all sick and cough by me... grr! It DOES suck that we can't take anything.

Rest, LOTS of water, and rest. I'd call and say you're just getting sick, they'll probably prefer you not come in.

Try Garlic lemonade! I woke up with a sore throat Sunday and made garlic lemonade in the afternoon. I drank two cups and sore throat was nearly gone the next morning. It never became a full-blown cold, as I'd expected it would.

Recipe:
chop 4-6 cloves of garlic and steep in a quart of boiling water for 30 minutes.
Strain and toss the garlic bits.
Add juice from 1-2 lemons and honey or maple syrup to taste.
Drink warm/hot like tea.

If things get REALLY bad, you CAN take psuedoephedrine. I took it early in this pregnancy and also late in my preg with DS.

I had a bad cough for two weeks and finally saw my doctor. I had a fever when I saw her so she said it was bad enough to warrant antibiotics. She prescribed azithromycin for five days which is listed as safe for pregnant women. She also said I could take robitussum and suggested a salt water gargle and a nette pot. I bought the squeeze bottle form of nasal rinse instead of the teapot style. It helped a bit. I couldn't do the salt water gargle for long because it made me vomit. i had to take one day off work and haven't exercised at all for the past two and a half weeks. i'm finally starting to feel better. I think it would be a good idea to check with your doc or midwife.
