pertussis vaccine ad

Forgive me if this has been mentioned before. I just get so angry when I see this adult pertussis vaccine ad on TV. Give me a break. So now we have to get the vaccine for ourselves as well as our kids. The thing that really bugs me about the commercial is that they say something like "we think the best place for our babies is in our arms, but it can also be the most dangerous" - (because adults can give infants the DEADLY pertussis).

Not worded right. Having our babies in our arms is dangerous. Nice.

It really makes me sick too! I had a bad reaction to that vaccine as a baby. Now I understand the new vax doesn't have the same ingredients but I still do not want it!

I saw these recently and was so mad. I also had a bad reaction to the vaccine years ago. After each of my DDs were born it was pushed...and pushed...and pushed. After DD2 they tried to vax me 3 hours after delivery. I keep getting talked to and given pamphlets every time we are at a doctors. I am sick of being treated like a "bad mom" for refusing to put myself at risk again to try a different version of the vax.

I find the entire campaign ridiculous since the vaccine is known to NOT prevent transmission. An adult could STILL contract pertussis and pass it to their newborn, regardless of vaccine status.

This is my biggest beef with the dTap and Tdap.

FYI tmwmommy...I brought up this issue to my son's Infectious Disease specialist (he has a Primary Immune Deficiency) and I was told that if you were contraindicated from the old DTP, you are still contraindicated from the new TDaP.

I was asking this dr (who is extremely pro-vax) because although I won't give my son the DTaP, I did want to research whether the TDaP really does prevent transmission, and I was considering vaxxing myself. BUT, I had a severe reaction to the old DTP, it is in my records never to receive that vaccine again. When he read through my records concerning my reaction, he said he would absolutely NOT recommend that I get that vaccine.

I'm a L&D nurse, and they want all staff working with moms and babies to be vaxed. I declined mine. We also have to offer the vaccine to all moms who have just given birth. I hate it.

That ad is the definition of Fear Mongering. Look at the crazy camera angles and the way the mother is clinging to the baby. I was not happy with that commercial at all. Next thing you know, there will be a Sid the Science Kid episode about whooping cough.
