I made a "wish list" on Amazon.....I was surprised at how many "green" things were there!

At www.myregistry.com you can add anything you like from any website to your registry, making it as green as you want!

I started a registry at myregisty.com just as a shopping list for myself, really, but quickly became annoyed that I had to sign back in every time I wanted to add something.

I'm using wishpot.com right now and LOVE it. You can create multiple lists, choose who you want to be able to access them, and best of all - it remembers who the heck you are.

Not sure if this will help, but you could always choose a store or 2 or 3) where you would like a gift card from and ask for gc as a gift? If you pick stores that sell green items plus you get to choose the item yourself, then you get both green items and items you actually anticipate using.

Ooo there was just an article about this in my Kiwi magazine, I'll go find it...

OK here's the ones they listed:

jillybeangreen.com
franklingoose.com
theultimategreenstore.com
And wishpot.com lets you add items from anywhere on the web.

When I had DS I just registered for things like BG 3.0 at Target, co-sleeper & wrap at BRU, etc. because I knew my friends & family would rather shop at the stores they were familiar with, but I added a note to it for a few certain things online.

I found that www.diapers.com had a nice selection of "green" baby items (they have a whole section dedicated to it). I had made a registry there just for fun but now my mom is throwing me a small family shower so it's come in handy. Good luck!

Amazon.com has a baby registry feature and lots of "green" items (they even have a specific "green" section with definite criteria for inclusion). Amazon also lets you add items from other websites. Some environmentally friendly baby items Amazon (or its affiliates) stocks offhand: Seventh Generation and Earth's Best baby wipes, California Baby products, multiple brands of cloth diapers, organic Boppy covers, various other forms of organic cotton baby clothes, Seventh Generation diapers, and tons of non-animal tested ecologically sound cleaning products.

If I was going to make a registry for just cloth diapers I'd use abbyslane.com.

I really like http://www.babyearth.com - you should check it out!

I'm using www.wishpot.com and finding all my "green" items on http://www.etsy.com that way I am not only getting a lot of recycled / upcycled / eco-friendly items, but I'm buying handmade and supporting artists, often local ones, too!

I also am using Amazon for a baby registry. (You can set up a registry separate from your regular wish list, too.) I have been pretty impressed with the variety of items - organic clothes, natural toys, natural bath products, slings and carriers, etc - and how many are staying in stock. I know sometimes, with 3rd party sellers, especially, items will drop from stock pretty quickly and never come back. But, the vast majority of what I've put on my list is still available, a couple of months later. I'll keep checking as we get closer, but I've been quite happy with it so far. AND I can put things from other websites on that list, too.

I have used TheThingsIWant.com for from-anywhere wishlists in the past, and have liked them, too.

I used amazon. I love that they allow you to add things from other websites now. I have the button added to my toolbar and it makes it easy.

I use amazon, too. My extended family already uses it all the time for keeping track of stuff we're interested in, and for birthdays. I like that you can add anything from any website. We used one of the universal registries with DD#1 and got like one thing off of it. Then it became a nice shopping list for us to buy everything we REALLY needed (ie diapers, Bfing pillow). I'm hoping amazon will get more attention this time (both our families are the type to send presents for baby #2). I don't need presents, but if people are going to spend money, let it be for stuff we actually need instead of just MORE baby blankets (we have soooooo many already!)

I've made pretty green registries at both Target and BRU. Most of my friends and family want to be able to go with a store they know rather than have to order only online. I do also have a baby registry at Amazon, and that is great for all those kid books, as well as some of the harder to find items.

I would suggest making multiple registries so that your friends and family can find you no matter where they choose to shop. Just ignore the "you should register for..." nonsense and just register for the things you really want/need.

Kaboodle

Amazon

At individual retailers, just add gift certificates to your registry to cover any out of stock items.

Though it sounds like there are lots of good alternatives, I just thought I'd point out that I've never had to sign into My Registry after the first time. My browser remembers me, and I've got the "Add To My Registry" button in my bookmarks toolbar, so when I'm shopping I just click that button. It brings up a small window to edit any details and choose the proper photo, then just adds it right onto the registry, very easy.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I was really unhappy with Target & BRU as far as having things I want. This is perfect! Thanks ladies!

sorry if i'm jumping in a bit late but i can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet, so i have to share...we're using depositagift.com and it is a-mazing. it's a cash gift registry service and they give you a full baby website with pages for details and pics (kind of like a wedding website if you had one). the eco-mama in me doesn't like waste, whether it be in the form of too much stuff i don't need or in shipping, and deposit a gift has really solved this for us. i want the flexibility to buy what we need as we get to know the little one. plus now we don't have to worry about returns and we'll have money to use at the local stores and etsy vendors we like to support. anyways, just another option to consider!

I just shy away from asking for cash gifts, unless it is one of many options. I think that folks really love shopping for babies and that joy is part of their reward.
I was thinking of having a cash part of things and clearly saying what it was going to (stroller or furniture) that way folks could pitch in on something with a face to it, and still give as little as they like.
