7 y.o. w/burning eyes- help!

Hi everyone,

My 7 y.o. son is having intensely burning eyes and I'm not sure what's going on. He also has a snotty/runny nose and an insanely persistent cough. The cough is mostly dry/shallow/irritated sounding, but it's almost constant and really hard.

He's had some very low fever when this first came on a few days ago, but that's resolved.

His biggest complaint is that his eyes burn. He keeps a cool wet washcloth on them as much as possible. They're not red or swollen or otherwise "off" looking. He says his vision is normal.

He has had the burning eyes issue in the past, but it's been many months since it's bothered him and didn't seem to last this long.

I"m not sure what to think or what to do- whether to take him in to be seen or not. He's not acting "sick" and is eating, drinking, playing, etc. He is a little extra tired, but I would be too if I were coughing as much as he is.

Any ideas? Any one BTDT?

I'd love any input.

I suggest you see an allergist or pediatrician. There could be some food/or dust or anything dealing with allergies that is causing him problems. Best of luck to you though and I hope the little guy feels better!

I thought allergies as well. My eyes were burning/itching for the last month but they've finally calmed down. My kids got the persistent cough with allergies as well.

The homeopathic remedy Euphrasia may be useful for the burning eyes, especially if his runny nose does NOT burn. The eyes usually having burning discharge with this remedy. Also, the cough that fits this remedy is often during the day and is better for lying down and worse in the morning. This info is from Miranda Castro's The Complete Homeopathy Handbook. It might be worth consulting a homeopath about. Hope he's better soon!
