Affirmations were incredibly helpful to me! I believe you need to start doing positive pregnancy affirmations as far ahead of the actual birth as possible (focusing on normalcy of pregnancy, comfort, excellent nutrition, physical fitness, love, etc.), and actual birthing affirmations from 37 weeks on. Make every statement short and positive (no ands or buts!). I didn't really need to use the affirmations past early labor because my mind was already "there;" It's kinda hard to explain. My 37 week-to-early labor affirmations included:
I am completely relaxed.
My labor is progressing perfectly.
My body knows exactly what to do.
My baby is aligning himself in the best position.
My uterus is strong.
Each contraction is bringing my baby down.
I want my contractions to come longer, stronger and closer together.
My baby's head is going lower and lower.
With each contraction, my cervix opens a little bit more.
My pelvis is gently stretching wider.
My body and baby are working together.
My baby will emerge from my body easily.
You get the idea. It totally worked for me. The mind is an amazing thing!
