What's the "normal" process?

We've been TTC for a year now. DH has tested fine. My OB has done a blood test to check hormones, and an ultrasound to check for cysts. They came back fine. Next he wants to schedule a laparoscopy to check for endo. (Which I have no symtpoms of) If that comes back clear, THEN he's going to refer me to a fertility specialist. I was a little surprised that the OB is the one that is going to do the lap. Is that normal? I guess I'm a little hesitant to jump to surgery before talking to a specialist. Is this a normal process though? What has the process been like for anyone else?

I would not do a lap before seeing an RE, but that's just me. Might make sense to do an HSG to rule out closed tubes. That's done in the radiology (x-ray) department -- or at least, mine was. Sorry can't write more now but will come back later.

P.S. Sorry about my siggy in an infertility forum but if it's any excuse, my twins are from IVF.

I agree with poppan, unless there's a legitimate reason for the lap there are other things I'd be interested in first. An HSG. Possibly a sonohystogram. I'd be asking for a referral to an RE instead of consenting to the lap. I don't think this is standard unless they have a reasonable suspicion that it IS endo.

I agree with the others. I would look into a HSG before doing the Lap to rule out blocked tubes and/or water in the tubes. BTW, my son was conceived after 3 IVFs/ICSI/PGD-CGH & 4 FETs.

Thanks for the tip -- never realized it was right there in front of me! Trying it now...
