We have been in the process of getting a home loan modification from our bank (through the Making Home Affordable Program) and we started back in March. In our savings then we had $6000, all of which was mostly tax return and a gift from DH's grandpa. Well the bank said with that amount, we have too much money to qualify. But if I can supply a new bank statement (since so much time has passed), showing a lower amount, then we would qualify. Well we still have about $6,000 since we haven't really touched it too much (it is the emergency). But we are still paycheck to paycheck with nothing left over. We even tap from that savings for bills but have gotten another gift from Grampa. Guess I am out of luck
