Coconut water for baby or what do you put in the sippy?

Because he will not drink water. Period. At all. I learned he knows how to use a straw the other day when he insisted on a drink of my coconut water though. And then apparently he knows how to use a sippy... right up until he figured out it had water and not coconut water in it.

So he knows how but he won't. So what do I put in there to encourage him to practice? I feel better about CW than I do about juice, but ultimately I'm not sure it's the best choice. But I really don't want to put formula in it - that stuff stinks when it turns.

Personally, I'm not a fan of sippy cups- both mine learned how to sip from cups and straws by 6 mos, so they usually sipped whatever I did (water, tea, etc).

Yeah, that's the problem... mommy usually only drinks water (we were out when I bought the CW), and daddy only drinks soda or juice. He won't touch the former and mommy isn't crazy about letting him have the latter. He has a straw-cup that he has shown he can use if I hold it, but again, he won't if it has water in it.

would he drink diluted coconut water or very dilute juice?

what about just continuing to offer water like you would with a food that he didn't particularly like? think of the mindset that it might take a kid 8 or 10 or more times to try a particular food but you just keep offering it in a non-pressure type way.
my idea here is that a babe is a blank slate so they'll learn to eat what we tell them to eat (obviously they do have personal taste as well.) you know, like there's no reason a kid should like chicken nuggets and hate indian food when indian kids all over are eating the stuff. it's just been learned.
so maybe at this point just keep offering water if you want to teach him that "when we drink out of a cup we drink water." i mean, as much as i like seeing my babe eat and enjoy it...at this point (and hopefully never) i'm not going to run to the kitchen and grab the crackers that i know she likes just because she's not eating what we've prepared. i see parents making separate meals for their older kids on demand and i'm hoping we never resort to that.
would you want to look at water that way? at least for those times when he's just sipping for fun?

maybe try putting ice in it, or a slice of fresh fruit?

It took months before my DS actually drank the water I put in his sippy. He would play with the cup a little, get water in his mouth and spit it out, but eventually, he started drinking. So I would also say just keep offering it.

I agree with this. I wouldn't make any substitute for water or he might always refuse it. I would keep offering it like it's the only option and he will eventually start drinking it. All animals are designed to drink plain water. Good luck.
