markers/crayons for an eater/mouther

Our 15 month old is enjoying writing etc. The problem is she eats the crayons and markers (yes, chews the tip off in two seconds). We often let her use a pen because she can't eat it.

Anyone have have any ideas other than the usual markers and crayons?

thanks

Coloured pencils have been our solution. We found some nice short chubby ones that are triangular so they can't roll away. I believe they are Melissa and Doug. DS still chews on them but because they are hard he can't injest much or ruin them. He can chew a bit then colour a bit then chew a bit. Doesn't bother me and he's much happier without mama always interfering in his colouring to take crayon chunks out of his mouth.

My 18-month-old loves to use her MagnaDoodle (http://www.amazon.com/The-Original-M.../dp/B0006N8Z58 - though we have a cheapie version).

ds got these for his birthday, and we've used them twice. They're pretty cool. He's 14 mo.
He's just starting to "get it", but they are shaped a bit like balls, so when he gets bored of coloring, he likes to throw them.
