Several dips in LP - progesterone issue?

Hi mamas,

Does having several dips (say .1-.3) in the LP suggest progesterone is struggling or maybe some other problem? LP length is fine and temps are high 97's pre and low 98's post. Ovulation is around CD 15-16 and cycle is 29-30 days. However, it's been as short as 25 days once, but only once.

I'm 10dpo now and here's my chart. I took my temperature this evening (since I'm that patient and it's 97.3 vs. 98.4 same time last night. So, I'm concerned for another major dip in my am temp.

I just had a m/c at 9 weeks, and am TTC this cycle, so I'm a bit paranoid. If progesterone is a problem, I sure would like to know if this is a sign of a problem.

Thanks!

temperature in the evening is not related at all to your basal body temp- there are waaaay to many other factors to be able to gather anything useful for charting out of an evening temp, so while it can be fun for the curious, you cant read too much into that. as far as your post o temps (and i think this was a typo, but in ttc jargon, you know you are 10 dpo, not cd 10, right? ) they look normal with normal variation to me. you had a good bit of luteal phase spotting on the pg chart, didnt you though. did your doc ever check a serum progesterone then? (that may have only been related to the fact that that pregnancy had a problem, though- and i'm sorry for your loss!)

if i were you- if you get pg this cycle, have your doc check a prog level as soon as you know you have a +hpt. if you dont get pg this time, you might want to check a prog level around 7 dpo next cycle, but i can tell you, that test is not always accurate either. you dont have the primary luteal phase defect symptom of short luteal phase, so my guess is if your progesterone is low, it's just a tad low, but i dont really think that's the issue. good luck girl!

are you using a basal thermometer? all your temps are .1s

Hi mamas!

Oops, yup, I meant 10dpo, not CD 10 .

See, my reasoning was that my temperature could be compared if it was the same time of day, not as a basal temp though. Well, obviously, I was way off . My temp this am was 98.1. Ok, so I learned my lesson .

The spotting I had with my dd we attributed to implantation, only because it was stringy and old blood. I think my MW reasoning was the lining would be stringy, but I just can't remember well enough.

Thanks so much for your help!

Hey mama, what I mean is that my dips vary between a .1 and .3 drop. So, say I was 98 and then dipped to 97.7, so that would be my .3 drop. Does this make sense? Sorry for the confusion!

i think fm was asking if it was a bbt thermometer, because most of them go to the 1/100s- like 98.32 instead of 98.3. i do have a bd bbt therm that only measure to the 1/10s though, and i dont have any problems with that. tcoyf says it's good enough, but fever therms that only go to 2/10s arent, that is enough to confuse your chart. but i think your chart looks very normal.

i didnt check the date on the other chart on your page- i was thinking that was your m/c chart. that's a lot of spotting for implantation, which shouldnt take more than 6 days at the most to complete. i still would just say if you get pg, it wouldnt hurt to check a prog level. that's what i would do if it were me.

Ohhhh, got it, thank you! I just took my temp to be sure and it was 98.52, so yup, it's BBT. Ok, so would you please explain to me how this is done? When I just tried to input the whole temp from this morning, it only puts 98.1, rather than 98.17 . Yet, oddly enough, I see many charts that have temps that are not on the line, but between lines and mine are all on the lines. I don't get it? ****updated***** Ok, I figured it out. Duh me. So, I should have been inputting the whole number, but I haven't been. Dang, so my chart isn't exactly accurate. I remember a lot of temps with .8 and .9 at the end. Oh well, now I know for next time. Thank you!!!

I will do. I would definitely want betas done this time, so maybe they can do both tests with one stick . I tend to have estrogen dominate-type issues like endo, fibro breast, gall bladder issues, etc.
