When did the so-called "nesting" period kick in for you?

I'm ten-weeks along - eleven as of Sunday! - and I'm getting antsy already. I know it probably has a lot to do with just moving into our house two weeks ago and being stuck on bed rest recently because of a severe kidney infection, but I totally want to start buying cloth diapers and board books. I want to start picking out wall art and curtains, stocking up on soft baby blankets.

When did you start feeling the urge to nest and how soon do you think is too soon to start ordering things?

I had a bit of a freaky nesting-like period some time around 20 weeks I think? I wanted- no NEEDED to get my diapers in order, but not much else. I was busy researching (brands, styles, prices etc) until around that point- I didn't want to do anything in 1st trimester and then since then have just kind of kept my eyes open for good deals on clothes and other things I like/need but haven't done any real nesting other than the diapers! I actually have had very little desire since getting the whole diaper thing ready to do anything, so I'd prob go with it if I were you. I haven't even cleaned out the "baby's room" yet and I am 40+2 now...

Wow. Is the castor oil starting to look like a good idea to you yet? I'm sure it's easy for me say that I'm willing to allow this baby to cook as long as it needs/wants to but it's got to be much different once you reach your end.

Anyway . . . I'm going to go with like you said. Poor DF. I just got the last of the MUST PLAN wedding stuff finished (we're getting married in August) and I'm already onto another project. I'd feel bad for him, but he's got a job he can go to and get away from me at.

Time to break out the ol' credit cards. I'm not a "shopping girl," but I think this is going to be fun.

Enjoy!
I actually still wish I were buying diapers... I am counting down till baby so I can see what colours to buy more in
Not so sure if I'm ready for castor oil yet, but other natural induction methods () have only managed to strain my elbow and give me heart burn and I hate walking (hurts my back) so that's the only other one to try till it's time for the herbals!

Thanks! I know what you mean about the colors. After the baby is born the real fun stuff starts - you actually know who you're shopping for.

You could always stimulate your nipples - for twenty minutes at a time. Each. That one always gets to me. I wonder how many women actually resort to it, through. I certainly would never make fun of anyone who did. Whatever gets the baby there!

Never? Wow. Did you have to force yourself to get things ready or did you just stumble blindly for a while?

Maybe I got my nesting hormones and yours.

I'm kinda always a nester ... so sometimes it's hard to tell! I love to have my house clean and in order, buy new little accessories and move things around - and that's pregnant or not! But when I'm pregnant things have to be *just so* - like I usually like to make our bed as soon as we get up in the morning .. but this pregnancy I MUST make the bed and have our room tidy or I swear, I feel so irritated and out of sorts. :

I'm 21 weeks now and I've been nesting nearly since I knew I was pregnant. I have had a previous m/c so I didn't allow myself to actually BUY anything until I was around 13-14 weeks - but I would look around online and window shop. It's been a long time since I had a baby and lots of things have changed! I had to figure out what cloth diaper systems are out there now, price carseats, etc.

I've also started to clean out our home office in preparation to make it a room for this little boy. Yes, he will sleep with us, but I need a space for his clothing & diapers so I figure I might as well make it cute! I have already found and bought a beautiful crib & changing table set off craiglist that was too good of a deal to pass up. And I've been slowing building my newborn/small diaper stash off diaperswappers.com when I find nearly new things at good prices.

So you are not alone! I'm nesting - I'm always this way to some extent but pregnancy takes it to a whole new level!

Part of me want to start soooooo bad and I'm only 8 weeks, but I am moving at 18-20 weeks and have a serious weight limit imposed on my move. So no buying anything if I can live without it till Sept! Then I'll be putting that stuff at the top of he list, since with twins, and winter coming, i may not feel like it later!

I think I started picking up blankets and onsies for DD as soon I the morning sickness passed. I was knitting things for her long before she was conceived.

Around 20 weeks or so, I had strong urges to clean baseboards . Before that I had never even considered that they could get dirty! DD's room was decorated and fully furnished by 28 weeks. I'm glad I did it early, cause by 34 weeks, I had no desire to do anything but eat and sleep.

I've already grabbed a few things for this baby...

22 weeks, when we found out the gender. Baby wasn't real till then. Since then (2 weeks ago), I have bought clothes, diapers, 4 car seats, new washer and dryer and new computer. Major nesting!

im kind of always nesty, although the three months of morning sickness did me in and my house was a wreck...and just getting back to normal but we are moving pretty soon to our new house so im packing here like crazy and nesting there. I think if we were already all moved in and living there I would be seriously nesting. I'm 18 weeks almost 19..and really itching to get everything all set up...so I can start knitting

I prepped and planned throughout my whole first pregnancy, and have just started prepping and planning for #2 (I'm 23 weeks).

Before my son was born, the hard-core nesting kicked in a week before birth. I went into overdrive and cleaned EVERYTHING. We're talking cleaning cabinet doors with q-tips, scrubbing walls, and the like. It was a very powerful compulsion!

Thanks for all the responses, ladies! You gals rock.

I guess I'm being hindered mentally by the general consensus that our culture puts out there - that you have to pass the first trimester before doing or saying anything. In my case, it's kind of too late for that seeing as I've already quit my full-time job for a part-time one, bought a pregnancy-friendly wedding dress, and my Mom must be going shopping every day what with all the packages of baby and pregnancy related things arriving all the time.

I'm so type-A by nature and LOVE lists more than almost anything else, so I'm going with it. With all of my health issues there's the very real possibility I could be put back on bed rest for a much longer period of time, so doing it now while I have the energy and desire seems like a good idea.

I'm getting married a the beginning of August, going on a two-week honeymoon, starting my new job at the beginning of September - after ACL Fest, we're probably going to end up traveling to see family in October/November. So right now might actually be my only chance.

Yikes. I've got to stop getting distracted.

We have such a small space that I'm not even allowing myself to even think about buying anything yet!
I know my best friend will throw me a shower & I've been thinking I might do it early...like October. My due date is just after the holidays & it gets so busy for everyone. So, once I have the shower then I can start getting ready.

It never happened. I don't think I bought a thing until the third trimester.

Having said that, if you see things you love (and especially if they're on sale) then go ahead. If it hadn't had been for a mix of gifts and my mother dragging me round the shops the baby would have been dressed in an old pillow case with a sock hat.

26 weeks, like a brushfire.

I'd say 27 weeks. I went and wiped down EVERYTHING and started sorting/washing baby laundry
