elimination diet musical chairs

after being dairy, soy and peanut free for over 7 months, we had the RAST run on ds. just for the top 10 (I think, the top 8 allergens plus corn and sesame? something like that). in any case, before ds was still itchy but I hadn't really seen trends in our food journal so I gave up on that. we originally went dairy free because ds had blood in his poop and was projectile vomiting at 10 weeks old. going dairy free seemed to resolve this issue. I still believe he was milk protein intolerant, which wouldn't show up on the RAST.

so, with our doc's ok, we trialed dairy in the form of a small amount of yougrt for several days. he seems fine! it will be nice to add it back to my diet, prepregnancy I was 145lbs, and now I weigh 112lbs. I was over weight so I had some extra, but now the weight loss is starting to bother me.

he was reactive (positive? what's the right word for this?) to wheat (3/5) and cod fish (1/5). I had been mostly wheat free anyway, because it seems like milk or soy is in nearly all bread, but not as strictly wheat free as I was df/sf/pf. I had even given ds wheat directly since he was 8 months old. he gets excema/itchy from it but I guess I'm just dense because I didn't put it together that it was the wheat causing it. I don't recall having ever given him or eaten cod myself. I do have a cousin with a fish allergy though.

anyone have any resources for wheat allergy? everything I find is gluten intolerance/celiac, but we don't have that (afaik). I'm not really sure why I'm posting other than people don't really 'get it' - I was used to be ing df/sf/pf but now have to completely change my thinking and it is hard!

The book Healthier Without Wheat by Stephen Wangen discusses wheat allergies and non-celiac gluten intolerance. It's been awhile since I read it but might be useful for getting info on wheat-only allergy.

Unless you've tested specifically for gluten intolerance and gotten a negative, I'd assume he's gluten intolerant as well. And there's a lot more resources out there for GFCF .

Hi DDC mama! Sounds like we gave birth to the same babies! Figuring Jules allergies have been a rollercoster.

I know what you mean about weight loss. Just make sure you get enough healthy fats since you aren't having dairy. Coconut oil is great.

If wheat is an issue, have you trialed other gluten grains. We were gluten free, but on small occasions we trialed spelt and it is fine. I just don't over do it. Still it is best to go completely GF for a while if needing some gut healing.

If you do use spelt, you can just sub it in for wheat in any recipe. Getting enough omega'3s can help with the inflammation from eating allergens.
