Metformin, non-pcos and TTC

I'm t2 diabetic and take a low dosage of metformin every day. I know that often metformin is prescribed for women with pcos ttc, but I've been wondering if the metformin has any effects for non-pcos women ttc.

I need to have a check-up with my doc soon and will ask her as well ... I'm just curious what others' experiences have been.

NO it should not have any effects on your fertility. In fact if it is really doing what it is supposed to with your blood sugar levels then it may help you concieve. And if you get pregnant it will be safe for the baby. They do not know how much of the drug passes through to the baby but from personal experience it has no effect. I had to take it for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy to help prevent miscarriage and I have a beautiful really smart little girl!!

The reason that pcos ladies are taking it is thecsame reason you are, the need forvan insulin sensitizer. So I'm guessing it is also helpful in many of the same ways. Many ladies are on it thru their intire pregnancy. I really didn't want to be on anything, but have fianlyy come to the understanding that controlling my insulin and related issues are important to keep me around to raise these kids, so I'm staying on it.

Likewise. I fought hard to stay off meds for my diabetes, but simply couldn't get my numbers low enough with dietary changes. I finally came to the realization that the benefits were greater than the risks, for me.
