I would wait and see what the assessment finds.

He may or may not qualify for services. Was this an evaluation through the schools or private?

We had private OT for a year before the schools also offered us OT. DD did not qualify for services at age 2.5, but did when reevaled at 3.5.

The schools *may* request their own evaluation. Some areas are careful on doling out OT services- they tend to do it mostly for fine motor issues, not as much for sensory after PreK (except for ASD kids and they have an OT that works with sensory/social skills).

My DD (10/05) has moderate sensory issues and had bi-weekly OT this past year (PreK), but they are putting her on consult services for K. Her 'educational' skills are too high to warrant weekly services since she above grade level and her sensory stuff does affect her daily life mildly, it does not 'at this time' impact her academic skills.

For OT in PreK- it was once a month pull out one on one (sometimes 2x a month) and once a month group with other kids that had sensory issues.

In class they made accommodations for her that included: a 'safe' place to go when over stimulated, chewlery, making sure she was aware of schedule/routine changes, adapting stories/previewing with her stories that were scary, and giving her room to jump/spin/rock etc if she needed it.

She has an IEP ( OHI) for mild CP and will also have PT next year in K. Although honestly, the sensory stuff is MUCH more a day to day issue than her very mild gross motor stuff (she is fully mobile, runs-etc but has low tone in her trunk/legs and fatigues VERY quickly).

Here our cut-off date for K is Dec. This year DD got IEP services and community PreK (GSRP) so next fall we are off to K. She is not eligible for PreK again and we can not afford private.

If the original assessment was just for speech , they most likely 'just' did speech & possibly cognitive. But possibly they may have included a fine motor/gross motor assessment. Check his IEP/MET any testing would be in the paperwork.

You can (and should) also request an OT eval. They should do the eval w/ in 30 school days. BUT since it is the end of the year, they may or may not get it done before summer break.

At home we follow a sensory diet, weighted blanket, and lots of physical contact- that helps a lot.
