What's This??

DD (20 months) is going through a "what's this?" phase. I think it is extremely cute, but didn't give it too much thought. My husband finds it hilarious and thinks it's very odd. (Sort of like she's a small foreigner actually trying to learn the language by asking us to label things) So, who else has a "what's this"er

my ds picked up "talk about it" from his friend. They would each point at something and say "talk about it" or "talk about that thing"

Ah, we have a "I see that!"er.

He is also easily impressed. So it usually goes something like this:

Him: "Hey! I see that!" *pointing to whatever 'that' is*
Us: "Yeah, we see the pen/kitty/television/tree... too!"
Him: *While still looking and pointing* "Woooooo-oooow!!! I LIKE it."

DS says all the above and lately he has been saying "Why you say that Mama?" This I hear a lot in the car

With my dd1, it took us awhile to realize that "wudat" = "What's that?". It was so exciting when we put the two together and she just started asking "wudat" about every single thing. I just love watching them absorb so much. DD2 (21mos) has recently started it as well, but she's not as obsessed about it as her sister was. I really get a kick out of it, though, even when dd2 is being really demanding "Wodat, Mama?!"

LOL That's sooo cute. My son kinda does that too sometimes but he says "DID YOU SEE THAT, MOMMY?!?!?"

It's constant: "what's that"? About everything. Most of the time I don't even know what he's looking at and/or he already knows what it is. If I don't respond, he repeats it louder and louder. WHAT'S THAT!?

My toddler makes up names for things completely oblivious to the fact that we already have a name for the object, no matter how much we insist that a horse is called a horse.

She's only 22 months, though. I'm really looking forward to that inquisitive stage.

DD just started doing this! She points and says "That!" Then I'll say oh, the fan? "Noooo" Oh the light? "yeah!" She gets so excited when i figure out what "that" is!

DS started his "wassat?" phase around 11 months... he STILL is doing it. Although most of the time now he says it about things he already knows what they are.. He wants us to ask HIM what it is and he tells us.

DS: "What'sat?"
Me: "What is it?"
DS: "FIRE TRUCK!!!"

He also gets very excited about it.
