What do you use when you are out?

Hi,

I use fitted diapers and wool covers most of time. When I tried to change cloth diapers in the car, it wasn't very convenient. I tend to use disposables when I'm out because I don't want to change diapers too often. With cotton diapers, I feel that I need to change diapers as soon as they are wet. How often do you change CDs and what CDs do you use when you are out? Thanks.

I use fuzzi bunz with micro terry cloths. since I don't tuck it into the pocket I can usually just swap the towel out for a new one. we always bring an extra dipe and plenty of towels when we go out.

I use prefolds and covers most of the time, same as at home. If it will be a longer outing I will use fitteds or a pocket.

I find a diaper change is a diaper change, CD or sposie, so I don't find any reason to use a sposie while I'm out just because of the changing hassle.

I also don't let a wet/poopy child linger in a sposie any longer than in a CD.

Keep practicing. It does get easier as time goes on.

I've completely ditched the sposies. I've got two in diapers right now and I'll never go back.

Good Luck!

i like to use a bamboo fitted like www.kooshiekeister.com with a cover, either fleece or wool depending on the weather. DD is a super soaker so cotton is no good for outings for us.

i like to travel light so i roll the cloth into a baggie and dh keeps it in his pocket so we have a place to put the dirty.

I keep our AIOs/pockets ready for the diaper bag. They're the lightest and easier to change, I find.

I have 6 Bum Genius 3.0, pocket one size. I've started taking these out for trips. They fit both my newborn and toddler and are quick and easy. Totally worth the extra money IMO (rest of our stash is homemade) I think changing a baby with fitted and covers isn't too difficult. It's when DS got to be over one year and always wanting to stand during changes the fitteds with pins got more difficult. If the weather is warm enough, I do diaper changes in the trunk.

I usually take an AIO or a pocket. Sometimes I'll take a fitted and a cover. Then again, those are the same things I use at home, too!

I generally change her diaper whenever I hear a poop. Otherwise if she starts getting whiny and the other bases are covered I usually know it's time to change her. If none of the above happens I'll usually change it about every 3 hours. But if she minds being wet she lets me know... generally she doesn't mind and she doesn't get diaper rash.

That said, I do tend to change a bit more often if she's in a fitted. The AIOs and pockets don't feel as wet on her skin.

We used to use pockets, which were super easy, because you can stuff them before you leave the house. It's just like using a disposable.
Now we are using fitteds, and they are not bad at all. A little more, because you need a cover, and my dd is a squirmer. But still easy!

I use pockets when we're out usually, or fitteds and a wool cover. Those are the only types of diapers we have right now since YDS has outgrown all of the PFs. I generally use pockets, though.

We use fuzzibunz for all but the briefest outings. They are easy and if we can't get to a diaper change as quickly as we normally would I don't worry because those things really wick the moisture away. The insert can be soaked and the layer next to DD still feels dry.

BumGenius sized AIO. Change every two hours (unless poopy in which case change as soon as discovered obviously). They are stay-dry so DD doesn't feel wet.

We only use fitteds with wool. We have a couple PUL covers, but they're our night-time covers. He's never been in a sposie.

I just grab his standard diaper, which is a Dream-Eze. Those will hold him 2-3 hours depending. If I'm gone more than that, I'd be changing him anyway. And usually I'm either at someone's house where I can change him, or we're at a store with a changing table. I've changed him a few times on hte back seat - it's not terribly comfortable but it works.

Years ago when I started cloth diapering I used sposies when out and about for a couple months till I felt like I could trust the cloth diapers lol. Then I just used what ever we used at home either prefolds and a cover or pocket diapers. It is a little different to change cloth in the car of even on a small changing station but you get used to it. I would never go back to sposies for outing. We bought a pack of sposies for a camping trip 2 yrs ago and that was the last time. Most of them are still sitting in the closet for our next camping trip. (Although a different child will use them as the child that used them 2yrs ago is potty learned. lol

I use pockets all the time, so I use them when I'm out too.

yes this! I've been cloth diapering since birth (6 weeks ago) and this is pretty much what we do. At first I was changing him every 2 hours, but after awhile I decided it was silly to wake the baby up from naps when he didn't seem bothered. So far no rashes. I give him nakey time whenever I can, usually a few minutes when I'm changing his diaper unless I'm in a hurry.

When we're going out we usually just use prefold's and covers just like we mostly do at home. I don't think it takes much longer than a disposable would. Sometimes we use fitted's and covers. I just keep a wet bag in the diaperbag to hold the soiled dipes.

I use cotton aios when we're out because I find them easier to change and pack. Plus, as a bonus, they really impress people. When people see me change her with a prefold and cover they find it overwhelming, but they see my Sposos and they are all over it.

I use Kawaii Baby diapers when out- they ae pockets with suedecloth inners. If it's an hour or two outing (like walking to the grocery store) I don't change at all (he never poops on outings). I wouldn't want to go longer than that, though.

Do you mean the microfiber inserts? I've read that those shouldn't touch baby's skin. Just fyi in case you hadn't read that

Prefolds and wool at home, and Rumparooz when we go out.

We just use his pf & covers and keep the usual changing "schedule" same as home. Never got a wetbag...use bread or veggie bags for the soiled diapers. When they get too creepy they go in the recycle bin. Changing in the car isn't as comfortable as at home but not bad enough for me to use sposies. He is 12 weeks and has been in cloth since day three.
