Turkey Safety? Help please!

OK, so yesterday I cooked a whole turkey. It had been thawing in the fridge for 3 days, and seemed thawed when I took it out. I stuck a thermometer in the breast and cooked to 180. I cooled the bird for an hour. I put the bird in the fridge. Today, I went to cut up the bird. Breasts, wings, legs seem fine, but when I went to take off the thigh, there's obvious undercooking there. I'm going to put it back in the oven, but the whole thing worries me. Still, I don't want to throw away a whole turkey! I figure the bits around the thigh must have still been a bit frozen which is why they're not cooked.

Is this safely salvageable? What about the parts that I cut off (all the breast meat and the legs and one wing)? They seemed thoroughly cooked. Are they safe to eat? I guess we'll see soon, as my husband ate two sandwiches last night. I had a bite while I was cutting it up.

No idea. Just wanted you to know you weren't the only ones. We chucked a turkey a few months ago for similar reasons. Felt horrible about it.

butterball- they are mainstream but they do know what they are doing- they have a help line

next time- you should test in both the thigh and the breast and do the "wiggle"- leg should almost fall off and cut down to the bone of the thickest section---TAKE IT APART, cut and cut and cut- see that it is done and that you also have proper temps -and - doesn't look pretty but it sure saves throwing away a bird

try this!!!!!!!!!!!

i consider myself a turkey expert, having been through a TED in which that was my main food source...

don't throw it out!!! this happened to me once, exactly! i was so bummed b/c i thought it was ruined and they are pricey!

my dh, who is brilliant, fried me up some turkey. use a little olive oil, (or oil and butter!) and just brown it. that will finish the cooking, and you can freeze or sandwich whatever.. just do a bit at a time. it also happens to be YUMMY.

I did recook the uncooked parts of the bird. I haven't eaten any, but DH has, and he's still alive

a Total Elimination Diet.. my dd had some intolerance problems through my breastmilk when she was younger. People do it to find out what triggers intolerances or allergies when it's hard to determine the source of the problem- basically removing all potential triggers and adding foods back in, waiting to see what happens..misery is a TED. Turkey is one thing many people can keep eating in the TED according to the Dr. Sears version.
we're all better here now, though!
Glad you didn't waste your turkey!
