Assertive nurser-->difficult to wean?

DS is getting aggressive about nursing--pulling down my shirt, grabbing, screaming when he has to wait, etc. I had been thinking about weaning in the next few months in the hopes of getting my period back so we can start trying for baby number 2 but am wondering whether I should start earlier as I'm assuming that the assertive behaviors will only worsen the longer we wait to wean. Thoughts??

I've got no experience weaning, but my 3yo is very assertive and I'm really trying to establish some manners. He will demand that I nurse him and get upset if I don't. It's starting to wear on me.

OP not sure how old your ds is but I presume more a toddler than a baby, if so, you can explain that - just like baby talk - that you can't understand when they speak in 'baby talk' - you can't nurse when he behaves like this, this is perfectly acceptable for a toddler of this age and within our society and our expectations of little ones. In fact it's easier to learn from mamma than be judged by others as being rude - talk nicely and gently with him and keep repeating and he'll soon get the hang of it!

Is it possible that he's catching on to the ambivalence you're feeling about nursing? I've found that if my boys feel like I'm pushing them away, they're much more intent on hanging on, especially when it comes to nursing.
