My formal introduction

Hello everyone. I've posted some posts on this site, and now I guess it's time to formally introduce myself. I'm a first-time mom, after 15 years of infertility. My miracle is almost 7 1/2 months old. My DH and I decided to raise him as naturally as possible. I exclusively breastfeed, straight from the breast (no bottles), co-sleep (bedshare), AP, babywear, no vaccines, no circ, organic (furniture, toys, food, etc.), and I don't buy anything made in China. I've been getting a lot of unwanted advice, especially from my own mother, about how to raise my son. She is a proponent for CIO, no BF, vaccines, baby sleeping in own room, etc. Grrr. Anyway, I'm looking forward to "meeting" you!

Hi there!
Congrats on the birth of your babe! He is about the same age as my youngest.

Sorry your mom doesn't share your views, but just stay the course and I bet she will see in time that you are doing the right thing by your little guy. And even if she doesn't, YOU know you are doing what is best for you and your family and MDC is a great place to come and vent to like-minded mamas.

Hello and welcome to MDC!

I hope you still talk to MDCers "from China"!

Welcome to MDC!

It can be so hard when your family isn't supportive.

You can get tons of support here and have you looked at joining La Leche League where you live?

Congrats on your new little one!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I've been browsing this site, and I feel right at home already! I had no idea that there are so many moms/families out there that have similar philosophies on raising a family and parenting.

phatiu5 - Hi!

MamiCole - Hi! Yeah, it's just frustrating.

proudmomof4 - Of course! I don't have any issues with people from China. In fact, I'm 1/2 Chinese! What I have an issue is with the baby products manufactured in China. More often times than not, the recalls involve products that were manufactured in China.

tinybutterfly - I haven't joined LLL in my area. My DS keeps me too busy for anything! But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Now that's funny (the 1/2 Chinese part)! About the recalls: from what I've seen so far here, whatever is done in China is done "pragmatically" and "good enough" - which is sometimes totally against our German thinking of "If we do it we do it right." (We're a German expat family.)
Unless your authorities introduce higher standards (especially for toys and other children's products) for imported products Chinese manufacturers will use the cheapest ingredients and procedures possible. So "not buying it" is probably your only option if you want to play it safe.

It's so hard to find toys and other baby products not made in China. A good site that I found is www.kangarooboo.com. There, they include where each product is manufactured. Even some German companies manufacture some of their products in China, so it's not safe for me just to even go by the company. For instance, Haba manufactures some of their toys in China - I found that most of their fabric toys are made in China while their wood toys aren't. Hmmm. I find it true from other toy companies.
