Opinions on temporal artery thermometer?

Looking at the Exergen brand, but wondering if it's worth the price to get one of these.

You still have to touch your child's skin with a quick stroke on the forehead, but at least it's not as invasive as a regular mercury thermometer and you are less likely to wake them up at night.

We have the Exergen. I love that thing. Worth noting: it beeps while you swipe, so don't expect your kid to sleep through it!

Mine is as accurate as the one they use at the doctor's. I usually swipe 2-3 times and take the average. As they turn into toddler's, it becomes something of a challenge to use, but I still love it. I did test on my poor son when he was still a baby - comparing rectal temp to temporal artery temp and they were always equivalent so I'm convinced it's accurate.

I love ours! I use it for the whole family. I do it a few times and take the average, too. My kiddos don't usually wake from the beeping in the middle of the night. I do wish, though, that it had a light in the display. It is the same type (temporal) that the nurses used for their routine checks throughout the day and night when my dd was in the hospital as a baby. IMO, it's money well spent!

I agree. I got mine at costco for around $35 I think....it was a few years ago so I'm not sure exactly. It's the same one the pediatrician uses too.

The one our pediatrician uses was so wildly inaccurate in one case (where lo had a 102 degree fever and it read like 99... I had *just* taken a digital underarm version, and asked them to repeat and lo and behold it was 102+)--that it hasn't seemed worth the $$ to me when the quick digital ones (used underarm) have worked fine for us.

We've had the Exergen since my kids were babies. I really love it. If the batteries are good and it is clean it works great.
