Anxiety/Trichotillomania seasonal?

Ds has SPD, and some mild anxiety. He also goes through periods where he pulls his hair enough to cause bald patches. He's getting better, but I'm strongly considering having him see someone.

One thing I've noticed however, is that the hair pulling is a problem in the spring, lessens during the summer and pretty much disappears in the fall/winter.

Is it possible this is related to allergies somehow? We've got a strong family history of seasonal allergies - and my allergies are really bad right now, and the hair pulling seems to be getting worse. Where we live there are a ton of things that bloom Feb-Jun, then we hit the dry season when pollens really calm down.

Ideas?

DS started doing this (SPD, anxiety) and I had his hair buzzed . It stopped, and when his hair next got long he played with it a bit but he quickly stopped again - we had discussed bald spots and infection.

Why not try giving him an antihistamine? DS was manic this spring, with no rhinitis or itchy eyes - just ADHD-type behaviours and skin rashes. We knew by 5 oclock the days we'd forgotten to give him the antihistamine. Don't know if it could cause trich, but it's worth a try to eliminate it.

Tamar Chansky's OCD book has a small section on trich, and I'm trying to remember the other book I read on it:
