Roll over to new side. Plug nipple into waiting baby's mouth. Go back to sleep.

Yeah, that was always my approach. Stick boob in baby's mouth. Go back to sleep. Wake awhile later to roll over and repeat with the other baby (I had twins last time.) Repeat as necessary through the night. I slept I think a lot more than they did, because they would just eat until they were done, then fall asleep, and somewhere in there they'd usually let go, but I was never awake to notice.

BabyGirl is only 3.5 weeks old so we're still getting used to the whole breastfeeding thing. At the moment I sit up and use my B/F pillow. Sometimes she falls asleep at the breast. Sometimes she needs some walking/bouncing which my wonderful DH does 90% of the time.

I'm really looking forward to being able to feed her lying down when we're both a bit more co-ordinated.

Kate, the best advice I got with my first one is to practice during the day, in the light, when you are awake. Turns out sleep-deprived in the dark in the middle of the night is not the best time to learn to do something... go figure

Excellent. Thanks for passing that on. I will definitely practice during the day first.

Side lying makes a world of difference I think (if baby shares your bed). It takes practice but is so worth it for baby and mom.

The first two months of life, my son was in a side car, next to the bed. He and I both slept terribly, waking so often.

Then I put him in our bed.

From the first night he was in our bed, we both slept well and it's been that way ever since (he is 7 months now). He nurses several times a night but never really wakes, he just latches on.

I sleep slightly reclined with a boppy in my lap, baby sleeps across my chest sideways in my arms and roots around until she finds a nipple. more than once i have woken up and though "why does my boob feel weird" and then realized she's nursing. if she gets fussy i just turn her around to the other boob.

Depends on the age of the baby.

From birth to 3 months or so (it took a while for us to get the hang of side-lying nursing) DS starts out the night in the co-sleeper, and we did night nursing on the couch, sitting up (well, I was sitting up). He was waking every 4 hours or so, so if he went down at 10 pm, he'd be up at 2, and then at 6. I would be up for the day at 6, and he would usually sleep another 2-3 hours before being up for the day.

from 3 months to now: still goes down in the co-sleeper (the bottom part, we took out the bassinet once he could roll) and he comes to bed with us to nurse and sleep. Now he is going down around 9-10, and wakes, I think, around 3. (I don't always look at the clock). We nurse side lying, and I doze or sleep until he is done, the I adjust us so I am more comfortable (I like to sleep on my stomach). He might want to nurse again sometime in the night, and I just switch sides. We can nurse from both breasts on one side, but he is more up for this during the day. He usually will be up for the day around 7, but doesn't want to eat until 8 or 9.

Definitely practice during the day, with sidelying! especially in the early days, it helps if you can see what you're doing

I wish that was my dd, she never just latches on I always have to assist her and she always pops off so i have to stay awake until she is done nursing then 70% of the time it takes some rocking to get her back to sleep. I hope one day I will just be able to put a boob in her mouth and go back to sleep that sounds like heaven!

I usually could not fall asleep when DS nursed. So I'd nurse one side, roll him over me and nurse the other and then scoot him over to dad's side of the bed when we where done.
Now, I've put him in the crib because I thought he was eating just because his favorite buffet was right next to him. It was very hard, but now he only gets up once or twice a night and DH brings him to me or I get him, I feed him and then I push DS to DH's side of the bed and DH will return him to the crib or DS will stay in the bed depending on how awake DH is. I won't put the baby back in the crib because if I get up, I'm awake. I have trouble settling back to sleep.

Bebe kicks me, I wake up, she finds my nipple...Sometimes I can't fall back asleep, but usuallly I do, she finishes and goes back to sleep. Repeat several times until morning.
