Are any of you familiar with the school systems in India? I can't put money on it, but from what I've seen personally-it is pretty much memorization. I do feel pressure from that side of the family. They ask when ds will start school, this was when he was 2 1/2. Now granted going there and seeing with my own eyes how the population is so large that school is not available to everyone, and with my FIL being very pro-school, it is no wonder they worry about my ds. My ds's cousin who is just 11 months older was home from school tracing letters with out being told or having anyone instruct him, he just took his little book and began doing it on his own. Now that my ds is 4, he still doesn't do that. I know I shouldn't be comparing, per say, but i guess I am saying that some of the academic is pressure from DH and IL's. I am the one who chooses everything we do and whether or not we continue a book or stop. I am the homeschooling parent. But I know my dh, and I know that when it's all said and done Public school is probably going to be it for ds. I am honestly on the fence 50/50 at this point, but i know dh is leaning heavily toward public school, dh won't read the books or research homeschooling, he will just go with whatever at the moment, but my dh has never been to public school in the USA aside from 2 years getting a master's degree, he doesn't know that is mainly a social thing and that standardized tests trump actually learning things useful.
