Excess calcium in diet = cloudy urine in 2 yr old

I've been wanting to post about this for a while, but I kept second guessing myself. I'm sure now that when my 2 year old DS gets too much calcium in his diet, it turns his urine cloudy (resulting in 1 bladder infection) He pees in the potty now, which is how I know.

Before he was potty trained I did a goat milk trial with him (he is cow dairy free) It took very little goat milk to cause it (he refused to drink it, so only sips here & there) This was in the winter.
Trial #1 - complained of penis pain, stopped trial
Trial #2 - complained briefly on penis pain, but developed at UTI - stopped trial

Small amounts of calcium rich foods are okay - hard goat cheese, canned salmon burger, oatmeal & almond milk. Those foods combined in the same day or too much of them and his urine turns cloudy again (and he has a restless sleep at night, but no other complaints)
I then up his D. Mannose and water intake to flush it away, which seems to work.

He is still nursing a fair amount - 4-6 times a day usually, and I seem to have lot's of milk. More nursing has never turned his urine cloudy though.

I can't find any info about this, and my Ped. looked at me like I had 2 heads when I mentioned it to her.

Does anyone know anything about this or have any experience with this??

Thank you

My "guess" is that it's not the calcium, but perhaps higher amounts of protein, or types of protein that aren't broken down as easily as breast milk. Does the urine ever look bubbly/frothy?

My other guess is dehydration.

In any event, I'd try with the doctor again (likely a different doctor) and say you are concerned that your child's urine is periodically cloudy, and go from there. Good luck!

Thank you for responding.

I don't know enough about science, so maybe it could be a protein that is similar in calcium rich foods, I'm certainly interested in what it is.

It's definitely not dehydration, and I've taken note of when it happens and it directly correlates to too much "calcium" - if that's what it is (having a son with food intolerances makes me take note of unusual diet related things)

It's only happened a handful of times

goat milk trial - UTI & penis pain
ate a lot of almond bread in one day
salmon burgers with goat cheese for lunch
almond milk with oatmeal

The day after he ate all the almond bread and had the cloudy urine we were at the PEd's. She did dip his urine (which was no longer cloudy at the time) and it was positive for ketones (nothing else) which was odd b/c he had a big breakfast & snack before we got there.

He never has frothy urine, it doesn''t smell or anything else unusual. That could be due to the fact that as soon as I notice it, I flush him with the D. Mannose and lot's of water.

Considering he did develop at UTI when it correlated to my theory, it worries me that this is something I can't just ignore.

I will go back to my Ped, but I would love to go back armed with maybe some info about this, as she doesn't seem to know.

Thank you
