Warning, of sorts, about a dairy-allergy risk

Yesterday, I had vaginal itching and suspected yeast, so I put an acidophilus probiotic tablet in my vagina, which usually brings things back into balance. The tablets are expired because I stopped taking them 2 years ago when I gave up dairy for DS. As I was inserting it, I briefly thought, "DS won't react to this, will he?" because when I use garlic suppositories, I taste it almost immediately. The garlic has to be IN my system somehow, blood, I assume. So, it goes to reason the dairy from the probiotic theoretically could get into my breastmilk.

And, yup. DS was up in the night scratching for over an hour, in ways that he hasn't scratched for over a year or more. His torso, back, upper legs - not the typical eczema parts that flare on him. Even DH asked me what I ate yesterday - and I couldn't recall anything atypical. A few hours later, I remembered the (expired) probiotic.

(I know my siggy says we added dairy back in. DS passed an in-office dairy challenge with flying colors. But, I think he reacts to it. ...Now I'm re-thinking that maybe he's reacting to MY reaction. Not that I ever feel like I'm reacting to dairy. Urgh.)

It really stinks to lose what you hoped you had back.

Good to know that when your LO stops nursing, you could have him try dairy.

Yes, breastfeeding is tough with allergies as we are dealing with 2 different people at the same time. My nursing ds reacts to my consumption of dairy terribly.
