Scarlet fever rash

my 7 year old has strep throat and is on day 7 of a 10 day treatment with amoxicillin. She woke up this morning when an itchy rash that looks just like a scarlet fever rash.

Is it normal to get the rash so close to the end of treatment?

I finished my 10 day treatment a couple of days ago and my strep is back. I'm going to be taking her to the doctor. Maybe we just have a nasty strain.

ugh. This has sucked.

It could also be an allergic reaction to the antibiotics.

There is also a rash specifically associated with amoxicillin that happens around day 8 after the initial dose.

Try googling "amoxicillin rash" and see if it matches.

the pediatrician thinks that it's an allergic reaction to the amoxicillin. I haven't ever had one before and I assumed that it would happen wen she first started taking it.

Unfortunately I gave her a dose of the amoxicillin this morning. I've been giving her benadryl every 4 hours and I'm taking her back in for a recheck tomorrow morning.

I really don't want her ot be allergic to the penicillin family of drugs. No one else in our family does.

No one else in my family has any food allergies of any kind. My littlest guy is allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, and wheat. AWSOME!

FYI, I was allergic to penicillian as a child, but not amaxacillian. Just saying.

Also, I know there is a TYPICAL rash with some antibiotics. Doesnt mean allergic, necesarily. Has she been on this dosage before?

no, I don't think she's taken amoxicillin before. She's only had abx a couple of times.

I thought it might be scarlet fever because we have strep and while I finished my abx, I still have it (or have it again, whatever)

My doc had told me that sometimes a rash appears on day 8 of abx if never been taken before. But its generally pain/itch free, just looks bad. You said shes itching. So maybe it is an allergy. Hope you are all better soon!

Yeah, I had the rash as a side effect of the Z-pack I had on my last round of strep. I think it was a little itchy but nothing major, it only itched if I touched it. Otherwise, it didn't bother me. That's pretty common with abx.
