Does anyone know of any good supplements or measures that can be taken to help with post partum pubic symphysis pain? My sis is 7 mos post partum and still has pretty severe pain on days when she carries/wears her son and does lots of walking.

The only thing that helped me was a visit to my chiro, who does a manuever where I lie on my back with knees up. He pushes knees in while I push out. Then he pulls knees outward while I pull in. We do a few repititions each way. Find someone who deals with pregnancy and newborns--they may be more experienced with Pubic Symphisis Dysfunction.

I saw a D.O. for my pain.  The exercises Starry-eyed Mom shared will help a lot.  To do them at home I would lay on my back with my knees bent, do a couple of butt lifts to even things out and then my DH would stand over me.  First, he would stand with his legs between mine and I would squeeze his knees with mine, holding the squeeze for five to ten seconds. Repeat three times.  Then he would move his legs to the outside of mine (I would put my knees closer together) and then I would push out against his knees.  Hold and repeat.

When I was pregnant I had to do these in the morning and the evening just to be able to get around.

Let her know, I didn't feel back to my old self until my first son was 18 months old.  My third child is 15 months old and I'm just now starting to feel stable again without pain.

I have to sleep with a pillow between my knees, calves and feet and I have to turn over holding the pillow between my legs.  If I try and turn over by putting more pressure on one leg over the other it throws my pelvis all out of balance.

Also, I found some really good exercises in a book I found on Amazon.  I think the title was something like Healing Pelvic Pain During Pregnancy or something like that.

Best wishes to her - it can be very uncomfortable and hard to find docs who know how to deal with it.

Chiro and acupuncture helped me too.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I'm still having some pain and my dd is 15 months, and I wasn't even sure what it was. I actually think that I would be fine if we weren't cosleeping because it only hurts when I get stuck laying on one side and not moving for hours, but I can't wait to try the exercises! Thanks again!

I also highly recommend someone who does cranial-sacral therapy - sometimes this is a chiro, sometimes not. I had pain off and on for two years after my DS was born, despite twice monthly chiro. When I was pregnant with DD, it started again. Well, my chiro went out on leave, and er replacement did CST for my pain. After 2-3 treatments, it went away. I haven't had a treatment in 6 weeks, am 5 weeks PP and pelvic pain free.

I also believe Pilates machine classes were a huge factor in getting rid of the pain between pregnancies.

My ob suggested physical therapy for when after this baby is due.
