Letting veggies bloom?

I was told that once a veggie (like celery, parsley, etc) blooms it stops trying to grow girth and that I should trim the tops before they bloom. Does anyone know if this is true?TIA!

I know that certian veggies, like lettuce and some herbs, will change flavor when the bloom. So you cut the flowers off when they start to form to help prevent that and extend the season. If it is not a fruiting plant, I don't think chopping flowers off will hurt anything, so I would say chop away.

Yes, very true. It's an energy thing - like at first your plant doesn't grow at all, because it's growing roots, it's energy is under the ground. Then the energy comes up to make the stalks, then the flowers. If the all the plants energy is going to make flowers, the stalks won't be getting energy to grow
