When did you start having sex PP?

I know doctors recommend waiting 6 weeks. However, I gave in quite early. My DD was born 3 weeks ago, vaginal birth (no epi which I think helped my recovery), and I had a minor 1st degree tear. I did not tear on my perineum at all, as far as I could tell it all seemed to just be on one side of my labia.

Anyway, we DTD 3 weeks post partum and it was really wonderful!

Has anyone else done it earlier than 6 weeks? I know the docs say one thing, but my body felt totally ready and it was quite comfortable..

I think this is one of those "your mileage may vary" questions! If it worked for you--great!

For me, the first time, it took 6+ months for everything to feel normal. We did it the first time around 6-8 weeks postpartum. The second time, we waited 6 weeks again, and everything was fine. No pain, no problems.

Both times I had c-sections, so no tears/epis to heal. Just breastfeedling hormonal changes.

All 3 times for us we only waited about 4-4.5 wks.

Varied with each kid... first was about 4 weeks pp, and it was painful until after our second was born 19 months after the first, i blame that on the extra stitches that the ob put in ( he actually winked at dh when he mentioned having extra just for him). After the second it was about three weeks, after the third it was less than 3 days, the mw's were a bit taken aback when we mentioned it at the week pp check up. After our fourth it was about 3 weeks and after the fifth it was a week and a half.... we were dealing with the emotion of a baby in the NICU (for no real reason) and the separation that we were struggling with splitting time between the older four kids and the little one.

I can say it was only painful after the first and that was from the stitches and the newness of nursing, I was not familiar with the differences in my body that come with breastfeeding for me.

Probably 8 weeks with the last one. I tore really bad and things felt really wrong for about a year afterward.

Wow I'm jealous! We tried at 8 weeks pp when I finally stopped bleeding and it was horrible. At 12 weeks pp it was ok and from there on it got better and fine by 6 months PP. I really hurt for a long time.

Our wait time has varied from 3 weeks (first time, minor tear) to 2 days (second - only time I didn't tear at all) to 2 weeks (third time, minor tear). I say do whatever you feel comfortable with (though some people are concerned with the risk of infection if you do it very soon after the birth, when the cervix might not be totally closed. But I think three weeks should be fine). We always had a lot of high emotions after birth and couldn't stand to wait too long.

At least 8 weeks, post-cesarean. It was not fun, between pain, dryness, and tightness. I'm actually looking forward to a VBAC just so I can open up a little more!

About 8 weeks & then not again for a couple months - it just hurt too bad. The weird thing was I really wanted to in those first few weeks but there was no way in the world anything was going anywhere near there. I tore pretty dramatically though. By 6 months it felt fine again.

I even tear either time and still didn't feel up to it for months as opposed to weeks. I have a retroverted uterus which makes it painful anyway, so that combined with breastfeeding dryness doesn't help the situation at all.

In fact, with Ava, my husband was under the impression that it was advised to wait 6 months as opposed to weeks and I didn't even correct him.

I'm like you OP, I never waited the recommended 6 weeks. I've always had a somewhat high sex drive, and waiting 6 weeks would've done me in. I think I waited 2-4 weeks after my births.

Good lord, NO. I waited at least 6 weeks. And the first couple times were always horrendously painful. I never really tore- "skid marks" is all with 8 lb babies. But I can not imagine doing it before then. In one of the childbirth classes I was in years ago, the nurse told me about a few times she had walked in on people dtd hours after birth. *shudders*

We didn't wait near the full 6 weeks any of the 4 times. I've had all c-sections, fwiw.

Hee Hee

Two weeks

MW said it didn't matter since there was no tearing or skidmarks.

4 and 2 weeks with my boys. The 4 weeks was because I had an episiotomy that took that long to heal.

Around 5 weeks when lochia was gone. Had no problems, didn't hurt, felt the same as always.

LIKE 8 MONTHS LATER. And it still wasn't good. Took a LONG TIME.

#1 epis from vagina to anus and a urethral tear, 14-16 days when the bleeding had went to just spotting. It was a bit uncomfy but nothing major.

#2 no epis, small skid marks on the labia, 16-19 days when bleeding had went to just spotting. Again a bit uncomfy but nothing major.
