weaning off domperidone - how did you do it?

Hi there,
I've been on domperidone since December and I'd like to start weaning off. How did you do it? How long did it take? Was there an appreciable lowering of your supply?

I'm really ready to lose this baby weight, and I think the domperidone is preventing that. I'm going to stay on the fenugreek and the metformin.

I went cold turkey, because my family doc found a lump in my breast and wanted me off it asap. It didn't affect my supply all that much, as I've noted in other threads about weaning off. I think dom is great for boosting supply early on, but I'm not all that convinced that it did much for me after so many months. I quit it at after ten months at 160mg/day.

Oh, and I didn't lose a single, friggin' pound, hon. Just a warning. I was SO disappointed. I'm still all chubbified.

I did find that going off the dom tanked my supply – although it never made me gain weight.
I was able to very gradually wean down from 90 mg to 60 mg and then 30 mg (dropping one pill a day each week) without affecting supply but when I dropped below 30 mg I seemed to dry up overnight – likely because AF returned immediately.

I weaned off 160 mg by dropping 1 pill/week at first. Later, I dropped a pill every 4-5 days. My supply definitely dropped! I added in shatavari as I weaned off dpd...but in the end I think that inhibited letdowns. I stopped taking the shat when I ran out and I think I head DD swallowing more. DD didn't care that my supply was decreasing since we were still supping with a lactaid. We've now dropped the lactaid and she still nurses all the time.

I never had a weight problem while on the dom and I haven't lost any weight since stopping it. But I hope going off will do the trick you are looking for!
