question about bio tranz and the US/Canadian border

First, let me say hello (Hello!). I have been reading this board for sometime now and have benefitted greatly from the abundance of information! So thanks!

My partner and I are just about ready to start inseminating with a known donor ... He's fantastic... but we live on opposite sides of the Canadian-American border. The plan is to travel and do at home inseminations. However, I am just thinking that if the process takes a while, and there is a month where we can't meet, that using something like Bio Tranz would stop us from wasting the month. But I can't seem to find any info on whether or not it is even legal to send sperm across the border. Has anyone done this?

Which way?

It is absolutely not legal to send it into Canada.

I wouldn't even worry about the legality of it, it's more the logistics. It could be detained in customs long enough to make it not viable.

If you or he live close enough to the border, you're much better off to have him ship it to your nearest FedEx depot with "hold for pickup" on his side of the border, or for him to drive to the nearest FedEx depot on your side, produce the sample, and then ship it.


I really wouldn't send things through the border that are time sensitive, anything can and does get delayed clearing customs.

Thanks for the response FtMPapa! I figured that would be the answer. The border is pretty much in the middle between us and not all that close either way. I suppose I was just thinking it could be an option if neither of us could take work off on a given month. Driving to the border would be still require time from work though so I guess it's a no go.

Oh well, we know this would be a complicated process - it will worth it in the end though
