Peanut butter okay for a 2 year old?

DD has had almond butter, cashew butter and walnut butter. Does that mean peanut butter is okay or should wait until she's three for that? I know peanuts are supposedly a high allergen food...

I want to say that there have been studies done that show that delaying allergens when there's no family history doesn't negate an allergy...so giving PB "early" wouldn't CAUSE a reaction. An allergy would have to be there already.

My son loves bites of our peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and he's 14mo. I've heard that strawberry and wheat are two things that you're "supposed" to delay so a bite of my sandwich is a triple threat!

I don't remember when we first gave DD peanut butter, but she's been eating it at least since she was 2 (she just turned 3). Do you have peanut allergies in your family? If not, I wouldn't worry too much. Age 2 seems fine.

If you're really concerned, maybe ask your baby's doctor?

My babe has been eating some form of PB or another since he was about 10 months old or so. My ped put no restrictions on types of food from 6 months on. I think that's what the latest research is saying (like PP said).

Thanks all. No PB allergies on DH's side or mine. And the two of us both love PB&J. I'll get her some next grocery shopping trip. She loves, loves walnut butter.

My DS has been eating it since 12 months no problem.

IMO, its a crap shoot. We have NO food allergies on either side of our families. DS1 had peanut butter, dairy products, eggs, wheat, anything you can think of all before his first birthday. DS2 has had dairy products a handful of times, eggs at least once a week around his first birthday, and has litterally been DIVING at our plates since he wa s4 months old. He is HIGHLY allergic to Cows protein, and is sensative to eggs and peanuts. He wont get the hives and runny nose/wheezing/sneezing like he does with anything DAIRY, but he has exzema and gets irratble. So there you go. Totally up in the air until they EAT IT or get blood tested. Thats my

I started giving DS peanutbutter shortly after he turned one. We don't have a history of allergies. He was fine and completely loves peanutbutter, I can't imagine him not eating it, a huge chunk of his diet would be missing!

DS1 had pb from... IDK, early though, probably around a year. DS2 is 10 months and I don't *think* he's had peanuts yet, but its possible he has, and he's certainly been around peanut butter... its a staple!

My kid snagged a peanut butter cookie from the babysitter when she was 13 months. So uhm, I guess it is good she wasn't allergic.
