Let's talk about shoes..

Thread Starter
We live in an area where cacti grow in the yard amidst the very pokey grasses. My youngest (8.5 months) is generally shoeless still, but is beginning to pull to stand occasionally. His older brother (23 months) can't stand wearing shoes, but will tolerate a single pair of sandals that he's quickly outgrowing.

I need suggestions for shoes with heavier soles than the leather Robeez type things as thorns go right through those. However, they need to be really flexible (the 23 month old is AS and toe-walks much of the time) and fit a wide foot that is very thick top to bottom. I'd also like them to leave enough in my bank account that we can eat for the next week.

Suggestions?

I Just go to Target or Wal-Mart or any second hand store and see if the sole flexes in my hand. I don't really have a brand suggestion. I stick with off brands since he outgrows them so fast.

We live in So Cal and my son needs shoes outside too because the cement is so hot. We have a squeaky pair of shoes (they squeak when he walks.) Good shoes, don't know the name of them, a co-op sells them under a Squeaky Shoes title. I also have a pair of Robeez First Steps (thicker sole) and they are pretty nice too, a bit pricey though so we only use them for church.

You could always look on Ebay and see if you can get a pair of Pedi Peds or some really good brand for a good price. Otherwise, Robeez First Steps are good and not as pricey as others.

I'd see if he likes a Target or Wal-Mart pair first by trying them on him and all. Those are always the most affordable.

StrideRite is my recommendation. They come in widths all the way up to double wide so they fit those chunky little feet very nicely.
I just bought my 8mos old a pair of pre-walkers b/c he's pulling to standing and needing something with traction and protection outside. The sole is made from recycled rubber and so flexible.
You should check if there is an outlet store close to you.
