Five day high fever and now bumps all over her

Hi mamas,

My 21 month old got a fever last Friday morning with no other symptoms expect irritability and no appetite. The highest it got was 104 and averaged 102, with yesterday and today been 99-101. Today I noticed this rash all over her body. It doesn't seem to fit any of the pictures I've seen, so I don't know what to make of it. Sorry, my picture isn't very good, but I just wanted y'all to see the type of rash it is.

They aren't raised, aren't itchy (that I'm aware, she doesn't talk), aren't blistered and they DO blanch when I press on them. There are clusters of them in some areas, but mostly they are spaced a good amount apart from each other.

Any idea??

That is Roseola. Common childhood disease. The worst is over now that the rash has appeared.

Yep roseola or something like it. Now that the rash is here the worst is over.

I was hoping that's what it was! It really doesn't look like the pictures, as they are pretty small, separate and don't form a pattern. Do the types of rashes with roseola vary?

Thanks, mamas!

Yes. Your child's rash looks pretty mild. She'll be fine!

Yes, probably some kind of virus, possibly roseola. DS had it at about 10 months and the doc said viruses often manifest themselves in a rash several days after a fever. As long as the fever and rash disappear, I don't think there's anything to worry about.

I'm going to say roseola too-my ODS had it at 6 mos. Unfortunately it was a very scary time for us-his fever came back VERY suddenly (he went from 98.6 to 106 in under 30 minutes) and he had a febrile seizure and ended up in the ER. Glad your DD came through it with a minimal amount of drama!! The rash should mostly disappear in a few days-ODS's re-appeared (sort of-you could see where it had been) for about a month afterwards if he had been crying or if he got too hot.

It seems like roseola to me as well.

DS had it in October at 10 months. We ended up in the emergency room. By the time we got there his fever was 105 and nothing would get it down. Luckily the nurse assigned our room had worked in a children's hospital for years and was really informed on how to do procedures on little ones, but it was awful.

He had no other symptoms but extremely high fever for several days followed by a rash.
