Can't lay on left side at all...

This happened to me in my last pregnancy as well. It seems when I lay on my left side or even sit more to the left, I have some sort of nerve pain going on. It's really uncomfortable. I can lay just fine on the right side and even on my back (though I don't do this too often as I get bigger it does get a little more uncomfortable). I'm not sure if this is my sciatic nerve or something else altogether.

Anyone else?

DS always hated my sleeping on my left side. The position he was in caused me horrendous back pain when I slept on that side...even with a body pillow.

I have to be careful laying on my left side as well-sometimes a nerve or something on my back can catch and then I can't get up until it decides to release. I also have some low down pains on my left front that showed up AFTER my c-section with my second dc and it has bugged me this pregnancy. Not so much laying down, but standing or walking. My midwife and her assistant (also a midwife) have no idea what it could be. *shrug* I don't either but it sure hurts at times! (like today!)

Last pg it started earlier but I'm getting so sore/achy if I lie on my left. can't sleep on my back either so I'm really tossing and turning...

When I have a sciatica flare-up, I can't sleep on my left side at all. Luckily, my sciatica comes and goes.

We do pigeon pose in my prenatal yoga to relieve sciatic pain. Its intense, but it feels really good afterwards. Maybe that could help...

don't worry about laying on your left side. When I asked my OB (perinatologist, so really knows what she's talking about) about it, because I couldn't, either, she said it really frustrates her that that misinformation is still considered true. She said she'd like to personally edit every pregnancy book that says you need to lie on your left, and take that out. Apparently, it's not only just fine to sleep on whatever side you feel comfortable, but your body will tell you when to move and into what position. (At least, until you're in your late third trimester, then you're just never comfortable.)

I suppose its possible it could be internal scar tissue or adhesions that are causing you pain when you lie on that side... this is more likely if you've ever had an abdominal operation.

Totally true! and I do follow my body usually.. I just found it odd and amusing that the side doctors recommend I literally can not lay on. This happened last time around, too.

Never had an abdominal surgery... hoping not to start. It's more of a nerve pain, if that makes sense??? Not that I would know what adhesion pain is like.. but this is kinda in my butt/lower back area and extends into my hip a bit but it's far more intense than any of the sciatica I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with... but I'm still assuming it must be the sciatic nerve there.. I don't know! But I'm glad to see there are others out there like me, though I'm sad that they can't lay on the left if that is what they want.
