No dairy + high school reunion dinner = failure waiting to happen?

So, I am going to go off dairy again. This time for at least 6 weeks instead of the slightly more than 3 that I tried earlier in B's life. He was given a homeopathic remedy about two weeks ago and after emailing his homeopath today, she had me give him a dose again and suggested going off dairy again.

Problem is that in week 4 is DH's high school reunion, including two meals. One is a BBQ and the other is unknown as of yet. Should I eat beforehand for both of them so I can be sure of having "safe" food, or maybe contact the reunion committee to see beforehand what the menu would be? And if I think there is no dairy and eat it and it turns out there IS dairy, does that mean my 6-week trial will start completely over?

Anyway here is what he looks like today.

He's so cute!!

Avoiding just dairy is probably not a huge issue (you might get trace dairy, and some reaction to that, but it won't set you back the whole 6 weeks or anything like that).

And check your homeopathic remedy, they usually have lactose .

It can take up to 3 weeks for dairy to clear out of your system, but if dairy is the culprit, or only culprit, you'd see results in a week (maybe not complete results, but if nothing changes in a week, either dairy isn't the issue, or it's not the only issue).

What a cutie! If it was me, I'd either eat beforehand or ask if I could get safe food, because of allergies (and tell them it's all dairy/milk products). It seems to be in things I would never think it would be in, and when I was first starting out, I'd eat at weddings and just try to be "careful". It never worked, and my DS would end up vomiting every meal for 3 days. Now, for things like weddings, on my RSVP I say these are my restrictions. Just let me know if I can get safe food or I will plan on eating ahead, not that big a deal. And so far they've all contacted me pretty fast saying that it isn't a problem and there would be something safe for me to eat. I would do the same thing in this situation. For me, it's not worth the risk. I know that isn't everyone's stance though.

Thank you for the quick replies. I will start watching for any significant change over the next week or so, to see if I'm on a right path or not. Meanwhile, I did go ahead and email the planning committee. Hopefully they will have good news for me.

I would eat first, make sure you have safe snacks in your purse too like raisins and nuts.... Stick to the platters of fruit and veggies (no dressing though, there is almost always dairy and soy in them) make sure you are trialing soy too, many reactions are the same from dairy and soy. Trace amounts will set you back to square 1 IMO.

The reunion committee member just emailed me back and said that the BBQ is hot dogs and hamburgers. Maybe the bread will be OK or maybe it won't, but I could at least have a bunless hamburger if need be. She said she's meeting w/ the cook for the other dinner next week and would ask about dairy.

Now I'm not even half a day into being dairy-free this time, and I'm already missing it, lol.

A lot of hamburgers have fillers... ask me how I know. And if there's cheeseburgers on the grill too, there's likely to be cross contamination.... I'm thinking bringing a bag lunch would be safer in this situation.
