Are there any other programs that is as good as Sesame Street not necessarily with puppets.

What similarities are you looking for? I like Between the Lions, but I'm not sure if where they're similar (short independent segments within a bigger episode-long story, a focus on reading and pronunciation and such) is what you're looking for.

There was the Electric Company, you might be able to find videos at the Library

The Electric Company was a children's show in the late 70s or early 80s I believe...I remember watching it on PBS as a child.

Yes I want to find a show that I am not aware of, that teaches whether it be English or Math and other stuff and be entertaining too. What station does that show comes on?? I only can reflect back on the good old days of sesame street and how much I had learned from that show. Maybe I am looking for something of a similar quality. I may have to go to my cable provider and check other stations like PBS.

DD really loves all the second language shows: Ni Hao Kai Lan (Chinese), Dora the Explorer (Spanish) , and Go Diego Go (Spanish). Kai Lan is for the youngest kids and focuses on dealing with social problems in friendships, Dora focuses on patterns, colors, shapes, etc, and Diego teaches a lot of facts about animals. She seems to prefer Dora/Diego (but then again we speak Portuguese at home so a lot of words overlap).

Occasionally she gets to watch WordWorld/Super Why. Not often because they're not On Demand but both focus on reading and spelling. She really loves them but I figure she already watches enough TV.

PBS is a great resource

We like Between the Lions- language
Curious George- Math and science
Peep and the Big Wide World- nature, science

There is a new Electric Company on the air now. It is geared towards kids older than mine, but my 4 yo enjoys it if she happens to see it.

There are some great shows out there! We don't watch a lot of TV, but the PBS kids shows are pretty good. And a few on Nick Jr. too. I don't fully understand what happened, but a while ago we got a channel called Noggin - it was PBS kids shows 24 hours a day. It has since changed names to Nick Jr, but carries the same shows, without commercials at all even between shows.

I read an article a while ago about which kids shows have done the most research into what kids get out of them, learning-wise. Wish I could find it now!!

Ones we've been particularly impressed with include Dora the Explorer (for following a storyline, Spanish and some social interaction lessons), Blues Clues (for several types of learning including figuring out problems) and SuperWhy. I am sure there are others we've been into in the past, I just can't remember them right now.

...oh, and Jack's Big Music show - about different styles of music and problems solving etc.

My kids also love Team Umizoomi on Nick Jr., which focuses on early math skills (shapes, patterns, counting, adding and subtracting, etc.).

Conjunction junction what's your function? 3, oh 3 it's a magic number.

I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill.

Interjection! For excitement! Or emotion!

Lolly lolly lolly get your adverbs here.

Sorry. Back to your regularly scheduled MDC thread.

I have nothing productive to add here but I have the Preamble to the Constitution stuck in my head and probably will for the rest of the day

Between the Lions, Mr.Rogers, and Schoolhouse Rock are all good ones in our house.

Dinosaur Train is one of the best kids shows on right now imo.

Good alternatives to Seasme Street can be Baby Einstein and Mr. Rogers. I have found these to be very entertaining for younger children.

For older children (6+), Cyberchase is a good one because it is fast-paced, entertaining, and chock full of math/science/technology lessons. For my littler guys, I like the Backyardigans for the creative, imaginative aspects.

Ooh, this is a great one, too! My kids love the show and Dr. Scott's segments.
