Turning PFs into contours or fitteds or using as soakers?

Have you done this? I want to make my PFs a little easier to use but I am scared to cut them up! I am new to sewing so it has to be easy. Also, I do not have a serger...

First, if I start out with just turning them into contours, what is the best way to cut them to be sure they fit? Do I need to finish the edges and if so, how?

Second, if I want to make them into fitteds, is that too hard? Are there any patterns and/or tutorials out there? Do I have to have a serger?

Lastly, I am thinking of sewing up some diapers out of some cheap flannel and using my old orange edge PFs as the soaker layer in the middle. But how do I cut the PF? Am I cutting out the middle, thicker, layer and if so, do I cut along the outside of those middle seams or what? Do I need to do anything to finish those edges or no since it is in the middle of the diaper anyway.

I would appreciate any advice you have!!! Thanks so much!

I just posted a similar ?-someone posted back about just cutting the pf and sewing up the edge you cut and use it as the soaker. I had made a few a couple years ago and used cloth wipes and newborn pf as the inside. I'm using toddler size this time so she suggested cutting it in thirds horizontally to make the thickest part be in the middle. I'm not sure how I'm going to do it all yet though.

I think you could make it work with a tightly spaced wide zig zag. Its worth testing out to see.

I have found that if I do a tightly spaced straight stitch about 1/4 - 1/2 inch from the raw edges, and then go back around with a tightly spaced wide zigzag over the edges that I can avoid having to go buy a serger. When I was just using a zigzag over the raw edges, it came undone after a few washes. But my machine doesn't do a very wide stitch, so you may be able to get away with just a zigzag if yours is pretty wide.
