How do you like this name?

So we decided not to find out the sex of the baby this time around and I have no idea what we are going to do about names. I feel 100% sure that this baby is a boy and my husband and I completely disagree about our 2 favorite names. He wants Duncan, which doesn't have a chance of being an option, and I want Desmond, which according to my husband doesn't have a chance either. The only boy name we have both agreed on is Lennox. I really like it, not sure if I LOVE it but I think I could. Just when I start thinking that's what our baby boy will be named I think hmmmmm is it too much? So what do you all think? Do you like Lennox or is it a mouthful? Our daughters name is Ellery, how do you think Lennox and Ellery sound together? Oh and another thing, if we end up calling him Lenny will that be too Of Mice and Men? Thanks for any feedback

well i like lennox. but not lenny at all. i thought of lenny on the simpsons first which doesn't have a great conotation. and lenny kravitz second. not sure i'd use it cause i am not fond the the nickname. but if you both like it...go for it!

hahaha I totally forgot about Lenny on the Simpsons. I just constantly think of Lenny from Of Mice and Men and how he pet that mouse so hard that he killed it. I feel the same way, I like Lennox but not Lenny. I don't see myself calling him Lenny but I am sure someone somewhere will call him Lenny, probably his dad!

Good name! And Lennox goes very well with Ellery.

You could call him Lex or Leo or Knox if you're not keen on Lenny - or you could just tell people who call him Lenny that, no, his name is Lennox!

Hmm, it's not my personal taste.

I like Lennox! I like it better than Duncan or Desmond actually! I agree with pp though, don't like Lenny. I think Len is ok & the pp who gave all the possible nicknames had some good suggestions.
I was just thinking about the name Ellery the other day; I think it's really cute. Good names Mama, different but not strange!

I LOVE Lennox! Not loving Lenny, but do like the other nickname suggestions. And you know? You could use it for a girl, too, if you end up being wrong about the gender. (And oddly, I don't mind "Lenny" as a girl name. You could always spell it Leni.)

We were so convinced we were having a girl that we didn't even bother with boy names. And then we had a boy! Poor DS didn't have a name other than "sweet baby" until he was 3 days old...LOL And the funny thing is, when we started talking about boy names, we totally disagreed as well. I really wanted Jesse, and DH wanted Michael (which is his name). DH said Jesse was out because he didn't want to think about Rick Springfield every time he said his son's name, and I said Michael was out because it was bad enough that DS share's DH's birthday - I didn't want them to have to share the same name, too! The only name we could agree on was Alexander and though we both thought it was ok, I didn't love it. Now - 5 years later - I think it's a fabulous name and can't imagine DS having any other. (Then again, when I was choosing a name I was on kind of a deadline and I didn't have a lot of time to second-guess the decision once it was made!)

Love Lennox, hate Lenny. I think it goes great with Ellery.

I like Lennox! It reminds me of Lennox Lewis (Canadian/British heavyweight champion)- who is a really intelligent and soft-spoken boxer! Strong and smart. Lenny is an ok nickname... reminds me of Lenny Kravitz who is very sexy and talented!

i like lennox and i really like lex an knox as nicknames..... lenny i really don't like at all it reminds me of an old man

I like Lennox a lot and it does go well with Ellery! I agree with everyone else, don't call him Lenny!!! Lennox has the same amount of syllables as Lenny so maybe he won't need a nickname, or a cute one will develop...

I'm not crazy about it, but it's not my kid. I do think it goes fine with Ellery, though.

But if you hate the nickname Lenny that much then I wouldn't use this name. It's what people are going to jump to.

I don't like it that much. Mainly because it reminds me of an operating system (Linux)! I think if that wasn't my first thought when I heard the name, I would like it better.

I hate being a geek sometimes

But honestly, if it speaks to you, go for it!

oh i didn't think of lex as a nickname, but it toally works! i like it and i like lennox. if you start calling him lex, then maybe it will bypass the whole lenny thing. it does sound nice with ellery....

A note on avoiding a nickname you don't like...
My sister named her son Samual & really didn't want him to be called Sam. Turns out my nephew didn't like being called Sam either, so when people naturally did that they both would say that his name was Samual and that's what he wanted to be called.
People got it pretty quickly & he has always been Samual.

I agree with you all about the whole Lenny thing. I never intended on calling Ellery, Ellie and so far it really hasn't been an issue. The only person that calls her Ellie is my dad and I am ok with that because it is kind of cute. Every other person automatically calls her Ellery because that's who she is and who she is introduced as. She calls herself Ella but that's a different story haha. Maybe it can be the same way with Lennox. If he is introduced as Lennox people wont jump to Lenny just because. I do love Knox as a nickname and even thought about using Knox as the name. We will see, there is still time. Thanks for everyones thoughts. I loved reading all of your opinions and suggestions!

I like both Desmond AND Duncan but Lennox leaves me a little cold – although it does go with your daughter's name and Lex is a great nickname (but then you have Lex Luthor!).

I love Desmond and like Duncan a lot, but Lennox reminds me of kitchen-ware or china. I don't really associate it with boys.
