Child Custody Laws PA- Happy Update #41!! - Page 3

The new lawyer is a winner!! Not only did she answer my questions directly (unlike the long-winded last guy)... but she works specifically with abuse cases and is head of a youth program here and advocates a lot in court for children, etc.

She has been practicing law for 30 years and told me she has NEVER seen a judge order overnights for a newborn!!

She said she knows both Masters that hear the initial custody case and neither one of them would dream of separating a breastfed baby from their Mother.

She herself nursed her little ones until they were two!!!

The game plan right now is I'm going to be working on a parenting agreement that she is then going to type up all legally to submit to STBX and see if he signs. I'm hoping since it will be from a legal office, and the fact that I can't foresee STBX being able to come up with money to contest... he will eventually just sign it.

She told me to be sure to be as specific as possible and cover everything.

She also told me not to worry about the newborn and if it comes down to it and we still don't have anything in place at that time she will send a letter to STBX telling him he may visit everyday between these hours, but the baby is not to be taken from the Mother until he/she is on solid foods, or STTN.

I almost cried at the meeting I was so releived. I feel like I have been fighting alone forever, it was so nice to finally meet someone who heard me and is going to help!

So... any good resources for parenting agreements? Thanks for all the support ladies!!!

Now that is some good news! Her background, her knowledge of the judges, the newborn issues, everything. I'm glad it went so well for you!

It's amazing how different lawyers can be - even in the same location - how different their answers can be. How some are so pro-active and will fight for you, and others are so lazy. One would kind of assume that any of them would be ready to fight for a client and provide the best info, but that's just not always the case. I'm glad you found the one who is on your side - solid support at last!

I know there's a thread on this board about "What do you wish you'd put in your parenting agreement?" that's worth taking a look at!

Can I just say...

And if you want to have a look at the parenting agreement I drafted up for my DD back when I thought I could work things out with XH, I'd be glad to email it to you.

Good!! I'm so glad it was a good meeting!

Don't worry too much about the parenting plan - for sure put everything in it you can think of, but your lawyer will tell you if there is something else that needs to be covered.

You can also talk it over with her if you are getting confused about what is "reasonable" or what is the "norm".

I'm so glad you found a good lawyer!
