I've got Family Closets on the brain...

because we just finished installing ours!

Check out my blog
to see photos and details. It's only been a couple of days, but so far we are really happy with it.

Let's talk Family Closets! Love them? Hate them? Not quite sure yet?

hmmm. Maybe my title wasn't catchy enough? Oh well, I like my new closet

I think my laundry might actually get put away if I had it near the laundry room! I don't have room, but it's a neat idea.

I would love something like this, if I had a house! I would prefer it to look a lot more sturdy though, and more intentional too. I wonder if they run into problems with having to wait in line to change in there though?

Ok, so my dream house family closet looks like this: Nice big room, walls are lined with those wooden shelves that you hand clothes in(like a closet) and there are dressers in there too, the tops of which can double for a place to fold clothing on. The washing machine and dryer are in a small room right off the closet. Theres a full length mirror in there, somewhere, and there are curtains hanging from the ceiling(like in a hospital) for privacy, so more than one person can change in there at a time. and theres a laundry chute to a small room off of the washer/dryer closet so the kids(and the dh!) don't just find a place upstairs to throw their clothes, and the room is big enough to facilitate sorting. Theres also a room around there somewhere for my sewing and for ironing. Oh, and the walls are nicely painted in lavender, sea green, light blue, etc.

Yay!! Congrats on your new closet! I'm intrigued with the idea of a family closet. My clothes have migrated to the basement over time. My hanging clothes are on a clothes rack and my foldables are in a clothes basket. My wardrobe is bare bones right now since I'm 8 months pregnant. I'm loving the ease of it. You'll have to keep us posted with how it's working out.

Glad you got it done and are liking it. Mine is a big mess, currently... but I guess it's better than 5 messy closets.

Hope it streamlines your laundry process.

We built our house last year and have a family dressing room. It is great to have one place to put away everything. Now I just need to organize it. One more closet needs to be placed(you can see a gap) but you can get an idea here...

Yeah. I'm sure it is no panacea for messiness, but I'm hopeful. At least if (when) it gets messy it is just one room and not the bedrooms as well! We'll see what happens!

Yours looks great! I love how uniform it all is. It's so sleek.

Yep, so the naive me never even thought this an idea for a family less than the size of say a Duggar family!

This is an AWESOME idea! If we had the space, I would be all over it!

As it stands, we have a 2 bedroom home, 2 closets in each room. DH and I made our den our bedroom by adding a door, but our closets are in the kids rooms. My DD and I share a closet - simply a rod on the top for me, and a tension rod low enough for her reach below that.

What a clever idea!

Thank you so much! This is a very well thought out house. We talked about building it for years and are so happy with the floor plan. Now we just need to paint it. Yikes!

Woodchick-I was just able to see your photos today. You have a really nice room size for a family closet. I hope you continue to love it.
