Do you Toss Everything?

I thought that by me purchasing products at the health food store (Henry's) I was buying good quality safe stuff. I was trying to buy the best stuff for my kids, but also keeping the budget in mind. Later on I researched the products moreso, I was shocked and pretty peeved about it all. Not only did I buy stuff that was worse than stuff I could find at Walmart, but it was more expensive to boot.

So now I am stuck with bottles of sunscreen, shampoo, lotions, soaps.....
Should I use it up first or just toss it? I am really mad at myself that I didn't print out the skin deep index and take it with me shopping. Or better yet, put a data plan on my phone so I could just look it up while there.

So toss or use?

I called right before I used it, but I lost the receipt, so no returns that way. Bummer because I would have really liked to at least exchange it.

I would use what I have and make better choices next time.

I've been making better choices (using more than one guide, btw, skin deep isn't the end-all, be-all) and have been mixing my healthier items with the less-than-ideal items to use the worst of them up without breaking the bank nor creating a lot of waste while being better for me....

Luckily my dd has a slight obsession with playing with bottles and all their contents, so I should be out of them pretty soon. Though it'll suck big time when she gets into the good stuff.

I've been using old shampoos, soaps, etc for toilet cleaners.

Don't just use Skin Deep as your only resource, as some of their infor is oddly skewed IMO. What ingrediants specifically are you concerned about? What products are you feeling buyer's remorse about?

They may take the products back even without a receipt. This was the policy at Whole Foods when I worked there. I would also use the employees at the store to try and help you find products that meet certain criteria. Folks in the department are usually pretty knowledgeable about what they sell...and since they don't make comission they're usually pretty honest too.

Instead of tossing it, you could take it to a food bank and leave it outside. Someone else may enjoy it.

That is what I do. Sometimes I use things for other than what they are intended - like shampoo I don't like as hand soap or body wash.
