Does this seem right?? - Page 2

The appt with the midwife practice didn't go well yesterday. they can't take me because of the fact that I take glucophage. I wish they had told me that over the phone because that would have saved me a 4 hour trip (2 hours each way) into the big city lol and I don't do well going to the city lol. Anyway she was very nice and totally agreed with me on my concerns, She also feels I need to either change providors- and she believes I definitely need a midwife- or at the very least advocate better for myself and refuse what I want to refuse.

I just worry about refusing since I was already told if I refuse the eye goop and/or vit K that I will have to talk to "someone" I can't remember who the hospital said it was but I am worried it will be a social worker, add to that I don't "follow orders" and I am afraid of what I will be getting myself into.

So I called the other hospital in the area and made an appointment for a consult with one of their midwives for this friday, I am kind of glad that DH will get to go with me because I always 'feel stronger' when he's around. So we will see how that goes.

thanks for all the good thoughts

BTDT, after a UC transfer. It was a hospital social worker, and (surprisingly) not a big deal.

Have you considered a homebirth?

Many many many times lol but hubby won't go for UC and we don't really have the funds to pay for a HB MW, unfortunately our insurance won't cover it

if this midwife group doesn't work out look for another! I transfered care at 34 weeks due to being diagnosed with GD. We ended up with an amazing home birth- do not give in to that OB's dictates- it makes no sense.

OMG - that kind of stuff makes my libertarian self HOPPING MAD. Too busy harassing thoughtful parents to rescue kids out of abusive homes. If that ever happened to me, I would read the worker the riot act and threaten to sue. But that's me. </rant>

Funny though how it doesn't work the other way.

For example:
-I passed the glucose tolerance test (the 1-hour) with DS, would an OB not require me to even TAKE that test in a subsequent pregnancy?
-I went to 41W 4D gestation with DS & he was only 7# 4oz, but would an OB be fine with not interfering past 41W next time?

Doubtful.

In other words, it's a classic case of self-fulfilling prophecy. They WANT to interfere, so anything that sorta, kinda, justifies interference is a green light. Like the exceptionally asinine scheduled CS because a mama's relatives had/were big babies.

=MORE MONEY.
While it would be best for human kind if this statement merely WAS the ranting of a paranoid delusional, unfortunately, you're bang-on. It's proven that there are more interventions & more CS at for-profit hospitals.

As for the threats - (i.e social worker visiting if you refuse stuff), I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've read lots of stories - & things like nurses visiting after HB in Maryland so you can get a birt certificate (CPMs are illegal here, so Mamas decline to name their midwife when they use a CPM.) & they say it's no big deal.

Well the appt wth the midwife today didn't go any better, she feels similar to the doc I currently have, and what's worse she says there I would be required to have an iv and continuous monitoring, at least with the other doctor if I am not induced I won't have to have continuous monitoring just intermittent. And to top it off she has to "clear it" with the docs in the practice to see if she can even take me on.... So we are thinking that we are going to just stay with our current doc and fight everything we don't want. At least the devil you know is better than the devil you don't...

but it might all be a moot point since today at my ultrasound (31 weeks) baby girl is in a transverse position but covering my cervical area like she's in a hammock, if I can't get her to flip.... been looking at spinning babies since I got home...
