cloth diaper advice

Hi, I am a new mom- my little guy is going on 11 weeks. I bought several types of cloth diapers to try out, but none seem to fit. He has a little butt and skinny legs, so he is just not filling out the edges which is leading to many blowouts. I am thinking pockets will be best for us, AIO's are just too much washing IMO. We are on a small budget so I can't splurge on the really fancy brands.
Also, I am lost about what types of prefolds to buy. Chinese, Indian, hemp, bamboo...I've found so many types and everyone claims that they are best. Can I use these interchangeably with the disposable inserts too? We received a case of gdiaper disposable inserts as a gift, but since the covers don't fit him I am hoping to be able to use these with other covers...

Thanks in advance for the help!

Small budget here, too.
Prefolds: the premium prefolds from Walmart are great, we've used them on two babies and will use the same ones (they last) on our new one. Covers: ImseVimse organic cotton, their newborn size is a perfect fit.

We use indian (unbleached) when using prefolds over here and love the softness and abdorbancy (cotton babies has them like 1/2 price right now with free shipping). I love that they can go in the dryer unlike my pockets that I am too paranoid to put in there.

I prefer wool covers (I crocheted some, and MIL knitted some) but also have a disana pull over. Fleece pull overs are good too. We also have 1 imse vimse wool wrap. We do snappis, but if you're planning to tri-fold, I'd use bummis wraps.

Thank you for the tip on the indian prefolds. I was able to get 2 dozen for about $25. I have done some research on how to fold them and I am hoping the thirsties covers will work for us. I was told they are better for skinny legs.

So glad you caught them! (I ordered a set of regular about a week before the sale ) It took me about a few days to really get the hang of slapping a prefold on, but now I can do it just as quickly as any other diaper-so don't get discouraged the first day. I've not used thirsties with prefolds, but we used them on DS with fitteds when he was a skinny-legged newborn and didn't have leaks. But, again, not with prefolds, so let us know how they work out.

Good luck, and welcome to MDC!
