Motherease Comparison

How does the fit of the MEOS compare with the ME Sandy's (size small)?
I have the Sandy's, and like them for the elastic around the legs and waist which contain the poop explosions well. I also love the absorbancy. The side snapping is really good for getting a decent fit on the thighs as well as the waist.
I don't like how bulky it is between the legs compared with infant prefolds, but I guess eventually dd will grow into them better.
I'm looking for more fitteds, and found the MEOS for a really good price, but it will be a waste of money if the fit is wrong, or it doesn't contain the mess and absorb enough.

Hmmm... I used the OS interchangeably with the Sandy's small. DS has just outgrown the smalls (which gives you an idea of his size to compare to your DD) but he's still on the smaller snaps on the OS. He has also outgrown his infant PFs and is in premiums - the OS is definitely less bulky. I actually really like the fit of the OS - they're very trim without a doubler, and I think probably still a bit trimmer than a PF with a doubler. If I could I'd convert my fitted stash to ME OS... and they do contain poop just fine - better than PFs IMO.

Thanks, Perdita! Anything contains the poop better than the pfs! I don't snappi/pin, which makes for a quick diaper change, but not for efficient cover usage!
How is the cut of the OS on the legs/thighs compared with the Sandy's? I'm finding that the covers I have are cutting across her thighs, which are currently fairly chunky. To get a good fit on the waist I need to make them tight on the thighs. Which is why I like the Sandy's and the AF covers. Will I find that the OS come down too low across the top of her thighs, do you think and will I be able to get a snug fit on the waist without being too tight on the thighs?
I know I could buy just one or two and try them for a while, but I'm trying to beat the HST!

I think I remember someone posting photos of their babe in size small sandy's and MEOS recently on the Mother-Ease diapering forum. Though I also recall the baby in the photos being pretty small still. Anyway, I always find the photo comparisons really helpful, so I thought I'd mention that in case you want to check it out on their site.

Thanks - I hadn't thought of that!

Ah, beating the HST - a worthy motive

Ok, so the main reason we moved out of the Sandys before DS was really out of them was that they made such a mess of his thighs. The tightness of the Sandys leg, combined with the Airflow covers, started a problem with contact dermatitis that I'm still trying to fix. Leakwise, I found the Sandys/AF bulletproof, but at the expense of his comfort. Now I essentially can't use any cover/diaper with any kind of gusset or he flares up with big scald marks. Argh. I don't want to run down Sandys too much because any elasticized fitted would likely have done the same on him.

The OS don't have that problem for us - they are made completely differently and are snug on the thighs without cutting in. I can get a very decent tight waist without cutting into his thighs. They're snug enough that I can pull wool shorties over top, or I can leave him coverless with confidence. I like that the rise is very adjustable simply by folding it over more or less.

Ugh - it's always a risk to go on someone else's recommendation, but I do find them really nice. I kind of wish I'd bought more of the OS rather than prefolds because I like the fit so much. Also I like the stay-dry option, which is much better than a simply fleece liner.

Perdita - thanks for the honesty. It's actually really helpful, because I find our covers with gussets leave marks on her legs (well, all the covers do, but the gusset ones are worst). So, maybe the MEOS will be better for her. But, what about the snaps? I've found marks from the snaps on the Sandy's. There seem to be more exposed snaps on the MEOS - do you find those leave marks, too?
I'm seriously considering going to the store where I found them cheap (unbleached cotton terry for $8.50!) and just buying a couple to try, but if I end up with more diapers I don't really use, I'll be upset that I didn't pay slightly more and just get the Sandy's! Especially as I'm sure that as she gets bigger, she'll need the liner in the Sandy's, so the MEOS, even with snap-in liner or my own doublers, will not be as absorbant as she needs. So, I doubt this will work for as long as getting two sizes of Sandy's (which I know is a long while off if she only weighs 11lb!)

One thing to consider is that the large Sandy's is SO MUCH BIGGER than the small Sandy's. 22lb DD2 no longer fits in small Sandy's (just) but the larges are massive, hugely poofy and ridiculous. The MEOS are a good in-between.

I like them both for containment and fit, but my kids have skinny thighs so I have different problems to you!

Hadn't thought of that. I do have a Lge and a ToddleEase, but they are packed away so I haven't seen them in a while. I do find that the rise seems on the lower side for the Sandy's.

Hmm... I'm trying to think if I've seen snap marks on him with the MEOS at all. I'll put him in one sometime today and report back.

I just bought a couple to try. Even if they end up not being my favs I think they'll be usable.
Now to find out how to prep them - can I wash them with towels on hot once? I want to try them while I'm doing diaper laundry tomorrow!
I'm sure that would be fine - you got the cotton ones? I can't see that they'd need that much prepping.

I checked the snaps, although you've probably figured it out - on the small size you may not have snaps against your DD's skin at all - if you do it'll be the smooth side. On the larger setting you'll have the smooth side of the "small" snaps against her skin, but loosely because the diaper snaps below them.

I really do like this diaper. I've decided I'm going to get a couple of the stay-dry version.

I'll try to report back after I've given them a good trial. I'd love to round out my stash with these, as they are more affordable than the Sandy's. They just feel so thin! I hope they fluff up in the wash. I've got them in the wash now, so I'll find out in the morning, when I open the drier.
Must say, though, in favour of the Sandy's - I had her in a bamboo Sandy's this morning, and our errands did not go as planned, and every chance I had to change her she was asleep. We finally got home 4 hours after I had last changed her, and although the front of the diaper was really wet, the back was dry. That's a really absorbant diaper. Her prefold would have been saturated enough to wring it out in that time!

I love, love, love the bamboo Sandys. They're so soft and squishy as well as being really high performing. Even though I knew I couldn't put DS in an elastic -leg fitted without his skin flaring up, I kept using those until very recently! The bamboo OS is almost as nice...

I definitely use a doubler if I know DS is going to be in the OS for any length of time. Overall they likely have more absorbency than the Sandys simply by virtue of the "square footage", but it's not all in the soaker area. But if we're at home and I know I can change him often, I go without. Another bonus is that when we use it without the doubler, he can move more freely - he kicks his legs and rolls around more - just less stuff to fight against I guess!

You've got me investigating if I can buy the stay-dry version locally...
