I have birds nibbling on my lettuce, butternut squash and pumpkin leaves, and beet tops. How do I keep them away????

I have read of people putting netting over their gardens.

Get a cat? Works for me.

A layer of loose straw will also help "hide" the leaves, and birds don't like to land where they can't tell what is underneath and nearby. So garden knick knacks actaully have a valid purpose. I've seen bobcat urine for sale too, but not sure if that will work for birds.

We have aluminum pie plates strung up so when the wind blows they bang on the trees. (Also heard old CDs work well.) Also windchimes around the garden. Garden knick knacks all over, some that move in the wind and some that don't. Netting/chicken wire over certain plants that they always attack (like tomatoes.) Next year we will definitely use netting over the seeds and new growth because now that they've discovered the garden they eat quite a bit of it before it gets big enough to thrive. Now all they do is eat any ripe tomatoes that aren't covered. Little buggers...
