I have birds nibbling on my lettuce, butternut squash and pumpkin leaves, and beet tops. How do I keep them away????

Get a cat? Works for me.
A layer of loose straw will also help "hide" the leaves, and birds don't like to land where they can't tell what is underneath and nearby. So garden knick knacks actaully have a valid purpose. I've seen bobcat urine for sale too, but not sure if that will work for birds.

Next year we will definitely use netting over the seeds and new growth because now that they've discovered the garden they eat quite a bit of it before it gets big enough to thrive. Now all they do is eat any ripe tomatoes that aren't covered. Little buggers...
