Counteracting affects of radiation

It looks like I may need a CT scan. What are ways to counteract the negative affects of radiation from the CT scan? Iodine?

It is Potassium Iodide (KI) Here is an article explaining how it works.

http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/EmergencyPr.../ucm072265.htm It also has information on where to purchase it.

You could certainly take it if you like, I am sure lots of people do. I don't think it would be necessary.

Could they do an MRI/Ultra Sound instead? It might not be feasible but it is worth a shot.

There are one or two homeopathic remedies for after xrays if you could contact a nearby homeopath.

This is coming up a bunch all of a sudden. Here's the other recent thread:

We've used yarrow flower essence from FES during, before and after exposure. Here's the link to that: http://www.fesflowers.com/yarrow-formula.htm#ind

We also do epsom salt baths, and it is often recommended to add baking soda for radiation. We are considering doing Modifilan for the long term.

If it's not an emergency, you might be able to wait for an MRI. It takes longer to schedule.

Potassium iodine only works to block uptake of radioactive iodine by the thyroid. It would do nothing to protect against ionizing radiation received in a CT scan.

To the OP- what is it a CT scan of? If it is of the brain, there is actually minimal radiation. If it is of the chest, abdomen or pelvis there is more radiation given to more sensitive tissues. If you have concerns, discuss them with the radiologist. A good radiologist should adjust the amount of radiation given to use the lowest effective dose.
