increased nursing sessions and pain!

i know i've heard n that toddlers increase nursing right around the 2 year mark.... so here we are

one side is having a lot of pain when dd is nursing... not sure if this is due to the increase. i kept checking the latch and everything looks fine. have her latch on/off/on with no improvement. it's hurting right behind the nipple and the nipple too. and now's starting to hurt when she's not nursing. it just started this week and i'm afraid it might get worse.

i know i don't want to stop feeding from that side, dd likes to switch around so if i don't let her go to that side, she's not going to be happy, plus i don't want to deal with engorgement/milk drying up on just one side.

any one with a recommendation or reason this is happening?

ouch!

do you have a little white dot on the nipple on that side? maybe it´s a clogged nipple pore...this just happened to me again recently after a couple YEARS of nursing without any problems (DS is 3)

Can you try some different positions and see if that helps?

Do you have any little cuts? this happened to me and i didn't even realize when ds got his first teeth that I had little tiny scrape marks from his teeth.. I really had to check closely... also is it possible that you are pregnant? Your supply may have dropped due to preganancy or other reasons and perhaps she is sucking harder to get more milk?

or like you said ,she maybe preparing you for an increase in your milk supply?

it's actually getting better today! maybe it was just her trying to increase supply. idk? she seems to have a lot going on now, i think new teeth (2 year molars) are coming out and she just started getting the k9s in a few weeks ago which finally made their way to the surface about a week ago. today and yesterday she kept saying her 'teeth hurt' and pointing to the way back part of her mouth. i probably won't actually see the molars for like 3 months because her teeth come in so slow. just hope it doesn't get worse again. thanks mamas!
