4mo EBF blood in stool...

DD has been having some blood in her stool for a week...
first in the morning, there are no blood. 2nd and 3rd has little speckle of blood. sometimes it becomes like a blood clot - not so red.
she is ebf and diaperfree. DP says its the position we put her on potty seat that is unusual for babies.
she seems happy and gaining weight. today she was quite restless.
what could it be? have you had this experience?
please help.

Is it bright red, fresh blood or dried blood? I can't imagine it having to do with sitting on the potty, unless you can see a fissure on the outside that's putting blood in her stool.

At any rate, I would take her into the doctor.

At that age my boy had blood in stool and was very fussy, but it was from exposive poopies and just miniscule amounts that were only detectable from a test at the gastro dr. She said it could be from underdeveloped digestive tract. He also had fissures.
I went on a dairy free, wheat free diet to see if it would help, but didnt. He just had to grow out of it.

It wouldnt hurt to go for some non invasive testing at the gastro.Mine didnt take blood or do anything but examine belly and hiney and take stool samples.
I never actually saw blood unless there was a fissure.

it is not bright bright red. it is red. speckles are very small. i really look her stool to see if any nowadays. if i didn't look so close, i don't think i find it.
the clot-like blood was yesterday.
its almost look mucusy thick poop with some blood.
i checked for fissures but didn't find any.
every time she stir at night, i am checking her anas to see if any warms but none...
we have an appointment next week fri with naturopath, he is on vacation now...

Mucus and blood are common signs of a food allergy. Dairy is the most common, followed by soy, eggs, gluten. Check out my blog for more info.

We had this too at around 3 months. Turns out he was sensitive to dairy. I had to eliminate ALL dairy from my diet (including dairy cooked in anything, hidden ingredients you name it) and that solved the problem for us. He is now 8.5 months and seems to have outgrown the sensitivity. I haven't given him dairy to eat himself yet, but I can eat some without any problem.

Dairy would be the most likely culprit, but wheat, soy, nuts or eggs could also be an allergen.

ds had this around 10 weeks so we eliminated all forms of dairy in my diet.

blood in the stool of an ebf baby is from something mom is ingesting. Soy, dairy, gluten, corn... start by eliminating those then if it is still present, keep a food journal so you can pinpoint the offending food(s). babies usually grow out of the sensitivity when they get older, but I am now very happily GFCFSF canola free and intend to remain this way. Check allergy forum for more support. This is one link that may help

thank you for the replys.
i am starting to eliminate dairy and eggs now.
akso, i have been drinking beet kvass lately and it might be passing through my BM? she just cut her first tooth today, this might be it?
today's poops were not mucusy. poop #1 was good and big. #2 Aand #3 had little tiny speckles of blood... i inspected her potty very closely, however, if it was on diaper, i don't think i have noticed any blood...

it can take weeks for the milk proteins to leave your system.

also, certain kinds of infections cause blood in the stool.

today's last stool was bloody mucusy one... sigh.
she seems to be healthy(except her poops) and happy. so its hard to think its infection..
first poop in the morning is totally fine no blood at all. i don't understand this... why?
has it happened to your DC?

could you have oversupply? SOmetimes too much foremilk makes my baby's poops kinda mucousy... I don't think I would automatically jump to allergies, but it is possible. Most of what I have read it is not common for older babies to suddenly be allergic to their mama's milk unless you are eating a CRAZY amount of dairy all of a sudden. My baby had some mucousy and slightly red tinged poops on thursday and I freaked out, looked up a bunch of info about oversupply and started block feeding and it really helped her stool. It's possible it is so many things from a little virus or maybe she is getting over to teething. If it makes you feel better I Would take her to the doc but my doctor would be useless when it comes to BFing...

teething could TOTALLY do it, I have heard.

My DD had this around 2 months. I don't do dairy, so I eliminated peanuts and soy( I had been on a peanut butter binge for weeks). I also made sure she was getting enough hind milk. I work so DD has expressed milk in the evenings. Some bags were more fore milk than hind, so I made sure to mix them.
After about 2 weeks the speckles of blood stopped.
I don't know if it was the food thing or the milk thing, but I'm glad it stopped.

so we went to naturopath, and he told us its giardia... but he did not take any stool sample or anything. just listneng to the simptoms. i looked up online for giardia simptom but it does NOT sound like hers. heck.
yesterday's poop was good except the last one around 6pm she passed mucusy red stool... the doc prescribed Alinia. she is not even eating food! i don't think its a good idea to give her pharmasudical drug! she is not even 5mo!

How would an EBF infant even get giardia, unless you had it as well?!

I would definitely get another opinion.
