Quick - need naming help today!

DD was born on Mon, 5 weeks early. DH and I didn't even have a short list of names at that point. We have since narrowed the field to Sophie Elizabeth or Isabel Grace. I've loved the name Sophie for years. My hesitation is because of the popularity of Sophia. Of course, Isabel and its variations (Isabella, etc) is also extremely popular.

Thoughts? How do I decide? We are leaving the hospital today (later this morning) and I'd like to have a decision before we leave.

Help.

Isabel is way more popular around here

I <3 Sophie! ( or Sophia) That was on my short list for girls

I vote for Sophie Elizabeth! Both names are less popular and ...

I just think it's beautiful!

We have a Sophie and Sophia in my neighborhood, but I hear Isabel pretty frequently too when we're out. I don't think I'd base my decision on popularity. Go with your gut. I love Isabel Grace, but they're both beautiful names. Congratulations!

Edited to add: And with Isabel she can go by Izzy when she want to be all unique and cool when she's hits middle school or so . Sophie isn't as nicknamable.

Congratulations!!

I also like Sophie Elizabeth. It flows so nicely.

I really like Sophie Elizabeth, go for it! Congratulations on your girl

Congratulations! Both names are beautiful. I just wanted to say that there are a lot more Isabels, Isobels, and Isabellas here than Sophie or Sophia. Popularity is regional, but if I had looking for a less common name, I'd pick Sophie. Sounds like things are different where you are.

There are so many Sophies here -- I would go with Isabel Grace from those two choices. (Well, actually, I would go with Elizabeth Grace and call her Eliza or Betsy!)

Congratulations on your baby!

I have a Sophie and I love the name even though I originally discounted it due to popularity. I do love Isabel as well! And you have more nickname options there: Belle, Bella, Izzy, Isa, etc.

I would go with sophie. that's the one you love, right? don't worry about popularity.

Definitely Sophie. Love it! Congrats!

I like Isabel a lot but love Sophia/Sophie: it sounds sweet for a child and elegant for a woman! I am usually not a fan at all of "kree8tive" name spellings (with excessive use of k and y!), but my oldest friend has a Sofia and I think it's a nice variant.

According to the SSA stats, Isabella was the #1 girls' baby name last year. Sophia is number 4. Sophie is 65 and Isabel is 110. You can also search by state, if you want to see how popular a name is in your area.

Personally, I like Sophie Elizabeth.

I think both names are beautiful.

I say ignore the popularity since it seems they're both pretty popular and try calling your DD each name and see what feels right to you.

Congratulations!

I'm not a fan of "kree8tive" (love that!) spellings either, but with a name like Sophia, which is Greek, I have to remind myself that that the original spelling would have been with the Greek alphabet. So any rendering in our alphabet is somewhat "kree8tive".

So, sf333, hope everyone has settled in nicely at home by now and your wee one has a name.

I like them both but I love the nickname izzy! And I do have friends with both a Sophie and an isabell...
I'd go with Sophie because I just attended a birth where they named the baby Isabella Grace.

Sophie Elizabeth! Two of my FAVORITE names. We named our daughter Sophie JUST before it exploded so we hear it a lot out and about, but I would NOT change it for the world. I say it a thousand times a day, I love it, and it's HER.

I have a good friend named Sofia, but she also gets called Sofie or Soph(?spelling)
I personally like Isabella more then Isabel just because you can call her Izzy or Bella or Iza.

They are both popular, but I LOVE the meaning of Sophie; we cannot possibly have too many wise women in this generation. If you love it, then go for it! I had no idea that I was giving my elder son the #1 most popular boy's name for the year he was born, but somehow he has always made it work and I can't imagine him with any other name than Christopher.
